I actually went 26 years of my life without having a dog and only getting to pet my friends' dogs. I had an assortment of other pets (fish, gerbils, guinea pigs, leopard geckos). Dogs were by far my favorite animal though and I started fostering dogs through two different rescues beginning in 2020. Fostering has helped me learn SO much about dogs and their needs, behaviors, training tools. I've been able to foster the sweetest dogs and the most high maintenance dogs. I've fostered fear aggressive dogs, high energy dogs, relaxed dogs, young puppies, dogs with separation anxiety, etc. I've given numerous prescribed medications (oral pills, eye drops, eye ointment) to my fosters, I crate trained my fosters (per the rescue's request). While my experience with dogs hasn't been years, I've gotten so much experience already with many sizes, breeds, and behaviors of dogs. Additionally, I've been starting to train all of my fosters basic obedience commands (sit, down, stay, place) and can teach your dog some of these things if you wish.
