Petite Dog Care - Full-Time Sitters

Pet care experience

Experienced and devoted dog care provider catering to small dogs up to thirty pounds. I gained invaluable experience while working at The Hampton Pet Club in Water Mill. My home-based dog care business is my 24/7 full time job, that I love. I have been caring for small dogs from my own home for 20 years. I’m always home with our guests. All of guests receive 24/7 care from Oliver and me. Since 2020 my husband, Oliver has been working from home and helping out with the dogs. They love spending time with him while he writes at his desk. Along with keeping Oliver company, the dogs enjoy all of the sunlight that shines into that room. It’s also where I keep extra beds and toy baskets, so they like that too. We only take care of dogs at our own home and do not leave to make house calls, so you can be assured that your dog will never be left alone while in our care. No kids - just two Bichons, Sparrow & Louie who look forward to having dog visitors just as much as we do. Sparrow is 11 and Louie is 6.

Colleen and Oliver were great! They were so loving and took wonderful care of our 13 year old Lexi (Lhasa Apso) who is a very, very picky eater. Colleen was perfect at giving Lexi her meds and she even found the solution to Lexi's refusal to eat. We could tell Colleen is an experience dog handler. Thank you Colleen and Oliver for taking care of Lexi while we were out of town. Lexi is looking forward to another stay in your perfect retreat.

She was great, our shih tzu had an amazing time and we felt very comfortable dropping him off for the weekend in Colleen's care. Very flexible and responsive. Great and easy to drop off on the way out to the Hamptons!

Colleen is THE BEST! We left our baby, Tako with her for 15 days and we already had a good feeling after meeting her and visiting her impeccably clean and dog friendly home. We received the MOST wonderful pics every day of our boy playing with the other doggies, enjoying the back yard, the sun room (his favorite I think) and of course cuddling up to Colleen and her husband on the couch and bed. Things we LOVE about Colleen....only small/medium size dogs, great space for doggies to roam and find their favorite spot, great communication and MOST of all, her wonderful manner and love of dogs. We know that she cared for our Tako as if he were her own. Thank YOU Colleen, we will be back again and again and of course recommend you highly to anyone needing your service.

Colleen truly put me at ease immediately with my 14 year old small dog! She sent pictures of his wonderful adventures in her fenced in lawn, going for walks, playing with his toys and even let him snuggle in bed at night where he is used to sleeping! Colleen was a true professional, inviting to tour her house and did not rush one moment, making sure I felt 100% comfortable. I will absolutely use Colleen again in the future when I’m traveling to Long Island. Thanks Colleen!

Safety, trust & environment

To ensure the health and wellbeing of every dog, we require up to date shots and vaccinations and regularly administered parasitic preventatives. Guests must be spayed or neutered and housebroken, pads aren’t feasible for our environment; they end up being used as a mat to sit on by other dogs and the dogs that do use them, tend to mark them immediately, so they get thrown out as soon as that happens otherwise others will mark as well. I am Certified in first aid and animal CPR by Red Cross. We have plenty of references available if you would like to contact any of them, let us know. Oliver works from home for Dan’s Papers.

Guests should get along with other dogs. Please let us know if your dog has any requirements such as meds/supplements we will be sure they get them. Oliver has a lot of experience with meds; giving pills and iv fluids, our last Bichon lived to be 17. It is best to label their food with their name and instructions to make it easier for us. We always have cooked meat and veggies available and healthy treats to supplement, it is best not to completely change the diet that they’re used to.

A typical day

We want all of our guests to feel at home. In order to provide a calm home environment, we accept a limited amount of guests, up to five families at a time; some guests have siblings, so we can have more than 5 guests when they have siblings and also when a guest checks in before another guest leaves, usually on weekends. Holidays also tend to be busier. We have a steady set of dogs that visit regularly and once in a while, we’ll accept a new guest. We have become a second home, especially to our older guests who have been visiting us while their family travels their entire lives. We treat all of guests like one of our own. They’re welcome to relax on all of our furniture, some prefer one of the many different beds throughout the house, while others prefer to cuddle up to one of us. Many of our older guests enjoy keeping Oliver company while he writes at his desk. All of the dogs enjoy laying on the cots in the front room during the day when there’s lots of sunshine coming in. Some of our guests are more playful. There are plenty of toy baskets in each room for dogs to rummage through and I love throwing balls and toys around the house and yard. The yard secure. It’s completely fenced in to the ground. We take pride in keeping a clean home. Multiple bowls of fresh filtered water are in each room. At night dogs are welcome to sleep on our bed with us, some prefer a spot of their own on a bed or the papasan. It depends on what they're used to at home and what makes them most comfortable here. We have a closet full of different laundered beds and blankets available. Either way our bedroom is big enough for everyone and has access to the yard. We go out last thing at night and first thing in the morning and I go out with anyone who wakes up during the night and wants to go. We live in a ranch, so not many steps, making it easy for older and smaller dogs. We do have a doggie door that most have learned to use during the day, but I go out with them and pick up and play ball, so they’re never out for long unsupervised. .
