About Trixie

Trixie lives with her adopted sister, Maya, and my parents, who care for her when I meet and stay with other dogs! Trixie is bonded to me more than either of my parents, and with me she is extremely affectionate and quietly sweet. She will give me lots of kisses and cuddle in bed with me, whereas she's usually more standoffish to others (unless they have food - then she's their BEST friend!!). Extremely food motivated, and able to learn new tricks quickly given the proper training method, but resists learning to roll over, possibly due to trust issues from trauma before she was rescued as a puppy. There are still things here and there that scare her, especially noises like thunder and air horns, and make her run and hide, but she has never lashed out or snarled/bitten due to fear or being provoked. Trixie is generally described by everyone she meets as "sweet" and tends to be calm, but her bark is very deep and might sound threatening to anyone who didn't know her! Has thicker fur with a fine undercoat that needs regular brushing to keep her comfy, and also to keep the seeds/other plant matter and debris from sticking and tangling. (She loves it, though - just say "Trixie, wanna be brushed out?" and she'll come over to you!)

About Maya

Maya lives with her adopted sister, Trixie, and my parents, who care for her when I meet and stay with other dogs! She is a mix of many different breeds including those listed, with strong terrier traits that include high energy and rapid shaking of toys during playtime (she'd be a great hunter I'm sure!). When it comes to getting her to behave, I like the phrase "a tired dog is a good dog". Maya is very intelligent and people-oriented, likely having imprinted on an adult woman who bottle-fed her from puppyhood when she was found abandoned with her litter and rescued. She follows people around from room to room throughout the house and responds to verbal and physical praise (usually more than food). She will bark at things she sees as threats, but does mostly take social cues from Trixie when it comes to deciding what those threats are. Ultimately, she's extremely loving and exuberant, with a hilarious personality!
