Happy dog, Happy life!

Pet care experience

Hello! My name is Christopher and I'm an actor who dreams of being in movies someday and performing all over the world. I work for Rover as a part-time job to help support my acting career and as my own "therapy" since I get to spend time making dogs, cats, and clients happy. I love all animals and have grown up around dogs and cats all my life. I have owned and cared for 4 dogs and 2 cats in my lifetime: a black Labrador Retriever, a hound mix, a Golden Retriever-Golden Lab mix, and a super-hyper Golden Irish (2 of whom were rescues, lived to be very old, and required daily medication, were often incontinent, and required almost constant attention). I also have experience with several other family dogs, ranging from a wiry little Bichon Frisé to multiple large and protective German Shepherds. Being a very active person who thrives off of physical activity, I'm all for long walks/jogs and lots of playtime. I love chilling, cuddling, and giving lots of pets and belly rubs as well. I love working on training dogs and feel very confident that I can win over the respect and trust of any dog. I want to highlight my experience taking care of elderly/sick dogs as well as young, highly energetic fur balls. My Golden Retriever-Lab, JACK, lived to be 11-years old and was diagnosed with a degenerative nerve disease that caused him to lose feeling in his hind legs. He struggled going up or down steps, was incontinent, and tended to drag his feet when walking (sometimes until his back paws were raw). Taking care of JACK required patience and a gentle but firm hand. I had to walk him multiple times a day (per the vet’s recommendation), clean up a trail of pee whenever he got up from sleeping, and wipe his butt or hold him up while he went “number two” as his legs would collapse under him so he often pooped on himself while laying down in a bed. My hound mix, LUCKY, lived to be 13-years old and, before he had one of his eyes removed, he was diagnosed with dry eye in both eyes and an ulcer and glaucoma in the other. I had to not only make sure his eyes stayed clean, but I had to administer several different eye drops at different times of the day (some were 3x/day, some were 2, some were 4). LUCKY definitely did not like getting eye drops put in, so I had to keep him calm but be firm enough that I could ensure all the drops went into his eyes. I love taking care of all dogs and cats. I believe all our pets just want our love and attention and since they love unconditionally, I try to pay them back in return. I am willing to go walking/running/jogging for a long walk with a highly energetic dog, or stay in and pet/care for older dogs and cats. I love working on training with dogs and would love to help owners train/teach their pooches as well. I cannot wait to meet your four-legged family members and provide whatever loving care and attention they need! Cheers!

This was our first experience with Christopher and he did an amazing job. We have a larger pack of pups and he did a wonderful job loving on them, feeding them, communicating with us and sharing pictures too. I will absolutely be using Christopher again. He has a natural gift and talent for caring for animals and I appreciate his professionalism, integrity, and ability to communicate!

I am happy to provide whatever care the clients desire whether it be walking on specific trails or for specific lengths of time, working on particular training exercises/commands, administering medication, or following specific feeding instructions/dietary restrictions. I don't mind picking up dog poop in the yard, changing litter boxes, or changing doggie diapers for older dogs. I am used to having dogs be let out and free to run around and play inside, but I also have experience working with crates if clients prefer to to use them. I am not able to house pets in my own home but am more than happy to do check-ins, dog walks, or overnight stays in client's homes.

Information Christopher W. would like to know about your pet

Before sitting a dog, I would like to know if it has any special needs or illnesses. Of course I would like to receive feeding instructions as well as any medication that needs to be administered. I would like to know of tendencies I should watch out for (such as chewing, getting into things it shouldn’t, or jumping on the furniture). I would also like to know if the dog has a serious issue with other dogs, the mailman/garbage man, or certain spots/noises that set it off. I would also like to be informed if the dog has separation anxiety so that I am not caught off guard if the dog is not acting normally. I would like to know if the client is comfortable with me giving it treats, washing/brushing it, or if the client has any special recommendations like taking the dog to a dog park, lake, etc. Knowing the plan for the day, (such as the cleaning lady at 2 or kids getting home from school at 3), would also be helpful.

A typical day

When I stay with a dog, he/she will tell me what activities they enjoy! Whether it be running, meeting other dogs, fetch, tug-of-war, swimming, dancing, or just sleeping, I will enjoy just being around happy dogs. Depending on the age and fitness of the dog, we will go on walks where we are surrounded by nature and they have plenty of smells to keep them occupied. I will try and mix up our routes every few days so they have different smells and new friends to meet. If by chance the dog doesn’t do so well with other dogs, I will adjust our route to keep the dog and myself safe. Back at home, although the dogs might not enjoy it, I am more than happy to brush the dogs and/or give them baths if the client so desires. When I am taking care of someone’s dog/dogs, my #1 priority is to make a happy dog, and therefore a happy client.

Availability

My full time job is auditioning for and working on theatre/film productions/projects in and around Cincinnati. However, I work for Rover part-time whenever my schedule allows and I get the chance to make some two-legged AND four-legged clients happy! Most of my availability is in the early mornings and anytime during the day. Most of my performing and rehearsing takes place in the evenings and nights but these times open up when I am not in shows.
