If we could give 0 stars, we would. In summary, Christina grossly neglected our two dogs, leaving them alone with no food or potty breaks for as long as 17 hours at a time. Yes - SEVENTEEN HOURS. And one of our dogs has bladder stone issues - something Christina was aware of. We took him to the vet right before we left to check the status of that and he then had no stone formation at that time. We don’t know an update of whether he has since this terrible experience. Now the detailed version of things: Christina agreed to house sit, and supposedly had an open wide schedule other than her night work shifts. She made clear she would be working nights from 11pm-7am five of the nights we would be gone. I repeatedly asked her, as documented by our correspondence, whether there were any chunks of time we needed to have a friend or neighbor relieve our dogs. She repeatedly said no, that she could take care of it and that she would be hanging out with our dogs at our house with the exception of her work shifts. She repeatedly failed to do what she agreed to, and never really house sat at all - just dropping in here and there for brief periods of time, (only a few 3-5 hour stretches in an entire week and everything else an hour or far less) only to repeatedly leave our dogs to themselves almost exclusively and leaving us to frantically call friends and neighbors and even former Rover sitters who had not been available to book this trip, at all hours of the night, panicking about taking care of our dogs. We felt very helpless being across the country in a different time zone and not being able to coordinate a new sitter. We eventually told her our friends could take care of it and had her drop her key off early so a friend could take over. Since we came home from our trip, our dogs have acted traumatized in a way they never have, hyperventilating when we have had to leave the house for brief periods of time. Our neighbors who helped us out repeatedly when Christina continued to not show up grew concerned that our dogs were not being cared for, and we reviewed our house surveillance to be horrified at just how neglected they were. Christina seemed like a nice enough person when we met, but I could never recommend her to anyone after such a disturbing experience that jeopardized our dogs’ health and safety and caused us all sorts of stress and sadness while we were on vacation. To add insult to injury, Christina was extremely unprofessional and continued to make excuses - which were not even remotely believable and which were verifiably false - for not showing up over and over. For example, after leaving our dogs on her (not our) last day at 1:45pm, she texted us at 10:15 pm Kansas time to ask if our neighbor could let our dogs out because she “got called into work early” at 7pm and would not be back until 7:30am the next day. Why she waited until 10:15 to ask when she could have notified us sooner was unclear. Although, spoiler alert: she wasn’t actually at work. Also, she said in her 10:15 text that she couldn’t really text at work. At first, we couldn’t get ahold of our neighbor who has a spare key, but eventually were and bless them - they went over super late that night multiple times. Christina still had not shown up by 10am the next day. Thankfully, our friend came to the rescue and was able to help out (the one who took over). Christina (eventually) answered one of my husband’s phone calls that morning and sounded very clearly hungover. He asked her to drop her key off. She texted us at 11:40am and said sorry for being unprofessional but she had fallen asleep while driving after her shift and was so sleep deprived she needed to go home. Christina relied on rides every single time she came over. She never drove herself. Which is fine, but we didn’t buy her falling asleep while driving excuse, especially since she sounded hungover. Also, I looked at her social media. She was in a Facebook live video at the time she supposedly was at work and couldn’t have access to her phone the night prior, all dressed up in a going out to the club type dress. Just reliving all of this is so infuriating and so devastating. We love our dogs so much. They are part of our family. We TRUSTED Christina to take care of them. She wasn’t just mediocre or subpar - she was completely irresponsible, neglectful, dishonest and so horribly unprofessional. We have hired lots of Rover sitters. We have never had a bad experience. Sadly, Christina changed that in a way that is truly sickening. She clearly had zero regard for our dogs or the contract she entered into - and that she repeatedly broke day after day. I hope this review prevents another family from experiencing something like this.
