Your furbaby is my furbaby!

Pet care experience

I have over 12 years experience caring for dogs from when I adopted 2 older, special needs dogs from various rescues. They were my furbabies. My first one was a black lab/shar pei mix who was rescued from a breeder. She had various phobias to noises and small children, and got frequent ear infections. She also had a form of IBS so I had to prepare special meals for her to keep her healthy. She was super sweet and cuddly, but liked her space, too. I taught her how to walk on and off a leash, and to enjoy the outdoors. She especially loved water and our annual pet/human canoe trip. My second dog was full sharpei but big for his breed. He would often overeat until he became sick so I had to measure his food, limit his treats, and keep all food away from him. It was tough to keep him away from table scraps with 3 young kids who made a mess eating and often snuck food to him off their plates, but after helping me clean up his puke, they shared less and less with him. He also got frequent ear infections and had very sensitive skin which required regular brushing and daily medication. He was a loving dog but not very playful. He loved finding new ways to escape and explore the neighbor's yard until I installed a tall privacy fence. He hated his kennel so in-home dog sitters were a God-send when I went out of town. I appreciated knowing someone was keeping him company, making sure he didn't overeat, giving him his meds and brushing him daily, and allowing him the comfort of home when I traveled. He had a lot of fears of loud noises, thunderstorms, vibrations and beeps so boarding him was traumatic. He was much more able to cope with this fears at home. I want to give other dog owners and their furbabies the same peace of mind that their dog will be comfortable, fed, loved and cared for in the comfort of their home, to alleviate some of the stress of being separated from their humans. I have cared for others' dogs for the last five years, since my beloved sharpei crossed the rainbow bridge. I love dogs and enjoy caring for them, especially older ones who need a little extra tenderness and TLC. I'm not afraid of bigger dogs and am reliable sticking to routines and rules to cause as little stress to the dogs as possible. I am a big proponent of meet and greets so please allow time for me to come visit your home and meet your dog(s) before any final decisions are made.

Our Maia is a former puppy mill dog who is quite anxious. Christina was so good and patient with her we were able relax on our trip, knowing Maia was in good hands. We are so thankful for Christina and recommend her highly!

I don't have a fenced yard and there is poison ivy on my property so it is best if I go to you for services (unless you like to itch) ;) I have an SUV and can transport your pet to appointments if needed, or to doggie daycare as needed. I'm allergic to cats so if you have one, please let me know so I can take the meds I need and we can discuss overnight accomodations that limit my exposure to allergens. I care for pets as if they are my own, paying attention to the details that will keep them safe and comfortable. I enjoy snuggling pets but can be firm so they continue to follow your rules and expectations while you're away. I'm all about communication and will send updates and photos throughout my time with your pet(s).

Information Christina F. would like to know about your pet

I would like to know about any special needs, daily expectations, likes, dislikes, fears, house rules, feeding routines and amounts, how and when to dispense medication(s), training status, whether they get along with other dogs, habits, and how long they can be left alone should I need to run an errand while housesitting.

A typical day

I love playing fetch and tug of war with active dogs and have tired out a pup or two. If your dog prefers to walk, I have experience with dogs who pull, as well as those with limited leash walking experience. However, I do not train them , but I am patient with dogs learning this skill. After some physical activity I like to give lots of praise, scratches and cuddles. If you're ok with me transporting your dog, we'll explore some local trails together. I have had dogs who do don't do well with dog parks so I will let humans take the lead on whether they are comfortable with me taking their dog to a dog park.
