Gentle and Responsible Caregiver

Pet care experience

I am an active, caring and responsible newly-retired woman who loves animals and the outdoors. I have had cats and dogs throughout my life, but 2 years ago my beloved cat Cleo, who was with me for 15 years, passed away at age 16 and I have not yet been able to replace her. I recently moved to Sicamous, and with all this new time on my hands, I am now looking to walk, board, and/or care for other pets in the area. I will look after your pet as if it was my own -- I will feed, walk, play and cuddle with them; brush, bathe and continue training practices if you require; and provide medication if needed. There are many walking trails in the area, and I love to walk. I want to make your pet feel as comfortable and loved while you're away as he/she is when you're at home; and I want you to feel comfortable knowing your pet and home are well-cared for while you're away. My partner has an 11 year old white lab named Buddy, who loves his morning walk in the dog park; but other than that is quite lazy. He is very friendly and gets along well with other dogs, but would not accompany your pet on walks. If you wish to board your pet with me or would like me to care for him/her in your home, I am a quiet non-smoker, very energetic, and have a lot of free time to spend with your furry friend.

I am grateful to have found Cheryl for our place. She is communicative and easy to get along with. She took great care of everything from Zeus, the chickens, the garden, and said hello to our cat Bella. At the same time, she had some quiet time at our Air B n B Creekside Retreat. Thank you.

Cheryl is amazing! She took care of my two senior cats for 5 nights while I was away at a work conference. I was very anxious about leaving them, especially my sweet 'momma's boy' who's usually doesn't warm up to others. However, when Cheryl came to meet the cats for the first time, Charlie walked right up to her and gave her a big ol' head bump; that was the moment I knew they were in good hands. Cheryl was incredibly flexible, great with communication and left the apartment absolutely spotless (no small feat with two shedding cats!). I'm so incredibly grateful that I found her and am actually looking forward to planning some holiday time away knowing I have someone the cats are comfortable with :)

My mom is an animal lover. We grew up with pets, usually having at least a cat in the house, but we've also had dogs and other pets that us kids insisted on including gerbils and snakes. Inevitably these fell to her to care for. When our family cat had a surprise litter of kittens it was my mom who ensured they were looked after, eventually adopting out all but the runt of the litter, who we kept and loved for years. Her most recent pet, a shelter cat named Cleo, lived a long and happy life alongside my mom for 15 years, until she passed away from old age about a year ago. This devistated our family. While she has considered adopting a new pet since, it's hard to replace a cat as wonderful as Cleo, so instead my brother suggested house/pet sitting might be great for the interim, until she's ready for a new best friend. Aside from caring for pets, my mom is a respectful and incredibly caring person. Her home is kept clean at all times, and she puts a lot of effort into ensuring her property is well taken care of, as she will for yours, too. She would be a stellar candidate for taking care of your pet and home.

Up until now, I have not had the luxury of a fenced yard while I have owned dogs, so I never let them out without staying close by. If not on a leash, I kept a very watchful eye on them (and a few treats in my pocket in case I needed to lure them back!). Being a lover of the outdoors, I enjoyed taking them for frequent walks 2 or 3 times a day no matter what the weather. I have had both indoor and outdoor cats, all of which were great companions. Frequent brushing and application of flea and tick medication kept their coats problem-free; and my last cat lived a long and happy 16 years.

Information Cheryl M. would like to know about your pet

I'd like to know about any special medical requirements of course. If your dog has any behavioral issues such as a tendency to be aggressive towards other dogs, I'd like to know that in advance so I know what to be wary of.

A typical day

I love going for long walks along the beach or on a trail through a park. I'll play fetch with your dog, throw a frisbee, or just run around with it to burn off some energy if needed. If your dog likes to run, I will take him/her alongside me for a bike ride.
