"Traverse City's Dog Lady" on FB!

Pet care experience

When I'm away from my dogs for any amount of time they are always on my mind. I appreciate and understand the amount of trust it takes to leave them with a stranger and I know we'd all avoid it if we could! I'm not just offering my services as someone who will make sure your dog stays alive while you are gone by simply feeding and watering- I'm interested in keeping your dog calm, safe, ease their nerves while you are away and keep them distracted with fun and companionship! My dogs mean the world to me and I know they mean the world to you too. I've personally owned dogs since I was 21 and my family has always had pets. My Maltese/Poodle named Blanche will be 10 this year and my Lab/Poodle mix Whinny will be 6. I've personally trained both of them and they are very well behaved and well-adjusted dogs. We have experience with vet visits and pet hospital visits, giving medications and can accommodate special diets and restrictions. The care I give my boarders is the same I give to my own happy dogs! Check out my Facebook page "Traverse City's Dog Lady" to get a peek into what my boarders have been up to! I'm currently a full-time student at GVSU through the University Center but only attend classes in person twice a week in the evening. I'm working on starting a business but it's very flexible and I can work around most things. We launch in February with our after-school program, which will be twice a week in the late afternoons. I'm home most weekends and look forward to my weekend boarders. I can accommodate most set schedules and am also flexible for if you need a one time service. I have a large fenced in yard with plenty of room to run and play, and plenty of toys as well! Dogs are always closely supervised in the yard as I'm either out there with them or watching from my dining room table. It is against Rover's policy to leave any dog unsupervised unless they are crated and secure. I have 6 windows in my dining room plus a sliding glass door that all overlook the back yard, so if I'm not physically outside with them I can still supervise from all angles. I live in a neighborhood with other dogs but most houses also have fenced-in yards as well. My home is completely pet-friendly and my dogs are allowed on the furniture and have their areas to relax and to play. I have a fully finished basement with little furniture, and we use the open space to bounce balls and play. My dogs are both female and both very mild-tempered. Both of them bark when someone comes new into the home but both calm down after a few minutes. My dogs regularly go to the dog park, beach and for walks around the block and in the woods. They interact very well with other dogs and love to play and sniff! My policy is to allow your dog to get used to me and my home calmly before I introduced them to my dogs, and if you were more comfortable keeping them separated I can accommodate that as well with some coordination. My husband and I have no children and spend most of our time with our dogs so a pet-oriented lifestyle is very normal and every day for us. The pandemic has allowed me to be home full time, my other work opportunities are on hold until public school are fully back in session with no risk. Dogs are never caged unless preferred. They have free reign to go sniff or play anywhere they like and they are always supervised as my home is pretty cozy and I have full view of every area of my yard.

Chelsea is amazing. My dogs had such a good time with her and her dogs. She sent tons of great photos and updates while we were away, and we appreciated them so, so much. We are grateful to have found Chelsea, and hope our girls are fortunate enough to be able to vacation with her again in the future.

Chelsea did a wonderful job with Penny. She had her for 2 weeks and we received multiple updates daily. She bathed Penny and sent lots of fun photos and videos.

I can't recommend Chelsea enough! She has been truly incredible, if not life changing. As a dog momma with a very sensitive pup, and has developed a bit of separation anxiety through COVID, I've been hesitant to board him... we also recently moved to TC so a new town added to the stress. I never thought I'd see the day where my dog RUNS from the car to her house after a weekend away. You can tell she is so engaged and loves these little animals. She provides regular updates and has really become part of my family's crazy little world. Selfishly I don't want Chelsea to become too booked up but my experience has honestly changed the way I'm thinking about travel plans and just daily life, so it's well worth the share!

Chelsea was the abosulte BEST!! We were staying in Traverse City for a few nights at a place that did not allow dogs so I decided to give Rover a shot and I could not be happier that I did. This was my first time leaving my pup so I was very nervous about it at first, but immediately upon dropping her off I felt so much better. Chelsea & her husband were so welcoming to my pup & their dogs were so friendly. She sent me tons of updates and pictures of my dog having a blast with the other dogs and also being super comfortable in her home. It felt so nice to explore TC without having any worries. I will 100% use Chelsea again on my next trip to TC!!

A typical day

Walks around our block are always part of the stay. Lots of attention and stimulation are also part of the stay, with picture updates of our dogs interacting, playtime, action shots and fun moments. During daycare more emphasis is put on playing with the dogs- a tired dog is a happy dog at the end of the day! During boarding, there is lots of playing of course, but also chill time as well to avoid overstimulation. We like to keep their activities balanced if they're staying overnight.
