Animal Nanny, loving care provider,

Pet care experience

I have run For the Love of Dogs Rescue for 29 years. I train dogs to be Service and Assistance dogs for our local veterans and special needs families in our local community. I love all Animals, especially Dogs and Horses. I personally have German Shepherds. I have yet to met a dog that did not either like me instantly or come to trust me over time. I ONLY use fear-free, marker-based positive reinforcement training methods. I am a disabled veteran myself and working with dogs is a labor of love for me. I am professional, polite, patient, and understanding. I look forward to meeting you and your dog(s) and making new K9 friends. Because of COVID and being a disabled vet, I am currently only training dogs, and Horses on special occasions. COVID has made our rescue efforts difficult as my rescue runs on a foster home model. What that means for you is that I have plenty of time to care for your dog(s) and other animals. I do have personal worship time on Sunday mornings and Tuesday evenings. These can be done anywhere as we are utilizing zoom for our meetings. In your home, I will endeavor to keep their normal routine except adding playtime if it's appropriate for your dog(s), cat or other animals. I am flexible and will always have your animal's best interest at heart. We may even learn a thing or two together. If at my home, your dog will be inside my home with our family. I have a fenced-in yard for outside play and necessities. I have a doggie door (which I can train your dog to use, or we can close it off and utilize your current method for outside necessities). I can crate in XL crates if preferred or medically necessary. Every dog and home is different. When house sitting/dog or animal sitting, I will follow your instructions. If any of these happen to be in opposition to my methods, I will discuss them with you upfront so that we are both in agreement. I love all animals, especially our canine companions of this world. I would be honored to be considered as your dog nanny, caregiver , house sitter, Animal attendant or whatever name you are comfortable with for me to care for your animals while you are away. Feel free to contact me and schedule a meet and greet. I look forward to meeting you and your animal family members. Humans may think my humor is off beat but the animals seem to love it. My rescue efforts have been impacted due to COVID, so I have a lot of extra time to spend focusing on the needs of other animals by offering Animal Nanny services, house sitting, animal sitting, dog walking, horse exercising, drop in visits to ensure fresh food and water is available, maintaince medications are administered, potty breaks are given, etc. Anything that is needed on a drop by visit basis. I offer an exceptional Dog Nanny service or Animal Nanny if you prefer. I strive to provide your furry companions with so much love and attention that they hardly notice that you are away. I love taking client dogs to the "DogWorld dog park" in Kannapolis, NC. DogWorld is a one-of-a-kind dog park!! The 17-acre property features an Olympic size swimming pool, two water slides, an 18-hole obstacle course, natural pond, rolling hills, a beautiful creek, and 12+ acres of fenced-in play space!! It also has a Doggie Concession stand for a Pup Cone (dog appropriate version of ice cream cones) Please visit Dogworld dog park on the web for more details. They offer single day passes, monthly passes and yearly memberships at very reasonable prices. The screening process is easy (every dog is evaluated for their temprement, play style and social skills and assigned a color coded collar band). There are monitors throughout the park to help ensure fun, safe play for everyone. the rest is pure FUN for the dogs. I can also help to get the 1st time evaluation completed if your schedule needs a little help. The park is open year round excluding some holidays. Please refer to their web page for complete details. I treat every animal with kindness, love, compassion and understanding. My approach is always based in science and experience. I have cared for just about every type of dog in a myriad of situations, good and bad. Typically the dogs that already have a loving home are pretty easy to figure out. Their basic needs are usually met so any issues going on are not too hard to figure out. I treat every dog as if it were my own. I am a dog lover and truly enjoy watching, caring for and finding ways to enrich their lives and making things easier for them while their family members are away. It can be stressful on animals when their family members are away. Some notice a 5 minute absence, other maybe a day or so, but all miss their normal routine. I try to provide activities, learning, playing, cuddling, grooming, etc. In an effort to help the animals relax, enjoy their time and make your absence less stressful for your animal.

Charlene is a dog whisperer - she had my two small dogs under her control 2 minutes after meeting them. She is very knowledgeable and conscientious about dog behavior as well as dependable. My dogs love to see her when she comes.

Charlene is amazing. So knowledgeable and kind and understanding. I highly recommend her as a wonderful dog sitter. I had limited cell service ice on vacation and did not worry one bit about my baby.

Charlene has taken care of our pets for almost a year now. Throughout all her visits, she has developed a bond with each of them. We have 2 golden retrievers who go berserk when they see her and three cats who started out shy and now sleep with her each night. I believe our tortoise is also excited to see her as she spoils him as well. Charlene really shines when it matters most. Giving insulin shots, dealing with emergencies with competence and patience. That is when you really know you have an outstanding pet sitter. I would highly recommend her to take great care of all of your pets.

We love Charlene and our furry family of 5 do, too! Charlene is has a huge heart for animals and it shows. She shares treats and lots of love with them, and they are happy to spend time with her. We know they are in good hands with her, and we will definitely have her stay with our family again! Thank you, Charlene!

Information Charlene R. would like to know about your pet

Please let me know of any special needs your pet has, that I can accommodate. I have experience with many different types of special needs from medication administration, movement restrictions due to injuries or surgeries, special handling to mitigate behavioral issues, etc. Please inform me of any issues, behavioral, physical or otherwise. I like to know what they enjoy doing. Anything that is considered a No No, for instance chasing squirrels or birds in your fenced in yard etc. Any food allergies, if there is anything specific that they cannot eat (I often bring my own homemade dog cookies and meat jerky). I may have beef, chicken, venison, buffalo, rabbit, Turkey. The meats are simply dehydrated meat (no additives or flavorings. The cookies will be limited ingredients and dog specific so nothing dangerous and flavorings are dog appropriate (very bland by human standards) lol. I can share my recipes if you would like.

A typical day

I love playing games with animals. We will play learning games as well as any games that you already play. I have lots of toys and can use yours with your dog or other animal. I love taking dogs on walks where their nose leads us. It's a joy to watch the dogs have fun sniffing and not be in such a hurry that they can't enjoy their walk. Games will vary according to the dogs ability and interest level. You will have to give me the details of what your dog likes to do, they can show me the rest. The same is true with other animals that may be in my care. I have had clients with dogs, cats, pigs, ferrets, rabbits, tortoises, birds, horses, chickens, goats and even one that had a monkey. I truly love all animals and will give 100% of myself to their well being (mentally and physically) while they are in my care. I recently had an article written about me and my rescue in the Yadkin Valley Magazine, May 2022 edition in the pets section starting on page 114. It explains a lot and covers a lot of additional information that you may find relevant.
