Farm Girl Competence in the City!

Pet care experience

Hello, and welcome to my profile! I am a pet sitting professional that can offer dedicated energy and attentions to your fur family member while you are away! Any work I do in addition to petsitting is done remotely, from home. I am located in the Glebe and surrounded by beautiful parks and lots of dog friendly options for on and off leash fun; Sylvia Holden Off Leash Dog Park is around the corner, the canal is a block away linking up with Patterson Creek park, and Central Park off leash area is just up bank street! A little about me: I started the journey of petsitting services as a side gig when I went back to school to complete a Masters degree. Seven years, a ton of fun and a small business later, working with animals has become a huge part of my livelihood and passion. It really is just the best thing ever to gain the trust and love of a furry friend. I simply couldn't trade it for anything! I grew up developing strong intuitive capabilities with both working and non-working animals as a Saskatchewan farm girl. Petsitting, and in particular dog training efforts, afford me the opportunity to tap into those long days spent with Border Collies as colleagues, and informs how I navigate the instincts of livestock guardian dogs like Great Pyrenees. Certifications: • Pet First Aid • Animal Reiki • Fear Free Animal Trainer • I have held volunteer positions with Street Cat Rescue Organizations inclusive of participating in trap, spay and release programs. I have boarded pets of women fleeing domestic violence with the organization Through Ruff Times, and I have spent summers living and rehabbing animals at the Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary. Dog & Cat Mom: I myself have three rescue animals, two cats and one former Mexican street dog turned sidekick. Peggy is my eldest, who came to live with me at 3 years old and has your classic cat-titude – she is royalty, we are plebes. Eve is my second fur baby and is a former feral cat whom I caught and habituated. She was a kitten when I started doing doggie daycare and as a result, she thinks she is a dog – she plays fetch, jumps into the shower with me, etc. Then there's Tequila, aka TT. Lil T used to run the streets of Tijuana, now she’s a full-time petsitting employee – providing security for the house, providing play time and cuddles to the doggos who come to stay with us, sharing treats and charming pawrents with kisses at drop-offs/pick ups. Tequila has perhaps been my biggest teacher of all when it comes to working with dogs. When she first came to me she was a deeply traumatized lil soul with a highly dysregulated nervous system. She was not potty trained, was destructive towards the home and self-harming if triggered. She used to need a muzzle to leave the house given her leash aggression, and just aggression in general, was so pronounced. Now, with lots of trauma-informed behavioral work and bonding, she's a little sweetheart who zooms around with puppies, cuddles strangers at the park, and parkours into trees after squirrels. I adore her endlessly and am so proud of the progress she has made. Our journey together has allowed me to deeply relate to the struggles of pawrents with rescue dogs and/or special needs dogs as well as gain pertinent experience in training methods and practices. In Sum: Over the past seven years I have worked with a wide variety of animals, each with their own colourful personalities and specialized needs. I have gained a fur family and a network of pawrents and pet-services professionals that make the work I do part of a larger, supportive community that is invested in the well-being of our furry friends. It would be a pleasure to have you as part of the fun and adventures that continue to unfold! Quick Reference: • meet & greets are free of charge • I am home/ with your pet 100% of the time; this can be assumed unless I have specifically stated otherwise and these parameters are as we agreed upon before bookings are confirmed • all pawrents are welcome to view/ tour my home before confirming daycare and/or boarding bookings • I have a backyard, yes; however it is not fully fenced-in • re: having cats in home -> I have a gate system installed throughout my home specifically for the purposes of slowly introducing new dogs to the cats. It is a measured, incremental journey of positive reinforcement. Both cats are very used to canine friends, are friendly, and in the case of Eve, do dog things too! • Tequila is always at home, so even if I need to pop out quickly (say for groceries) during a long booking (7+ days) your dog will always have a friend/ company • instagram: @floof.seeker

Our pup had the BEST time with Chandra!! From our first conversation with Chandra we felt instantly comfortable and leading up to her stay with our pup she asked many questions to make sure she could provide the best possible experience for her. We got so many photos and videos updating us on her adventures (from bringing our city pup all through the market for her to experience live music, coffee shops and a little picnic in the park) and our pup was exhausted in the best way when we came back. We cannot recommend her enough and would not hesitate to reach back our to her again if we needed a sitter.

Chandra did a lovely job with our dog for her first boarding away from home! She asked lots of questions and made sure to follow our routine as much as possible! She did a wonderful job making our dog as well as my fiancée and I comfortable with the whole process. She loves our dog so much and it really shows and makes it so much easier to let her be dogsat! We also got lots of updates on how she was doing which was great. I would 100% recommend Chandra and I’m sure she will be seeing Spark again soon 😊

100 stars. Chandra is a godsend, full stop. I adopted my rescue pup, Goose, without knowing he had severe separation anxiety. At first it was so bad, he’d panic when I went to the washroom. I was so hesitant to leave him with someone new because I’m aware of how high-needs he is, but also because I’m working on really specific training with him. Chandra took him on knowing his challenges and since she’s started caring for him, Goose has made SO. MUCH. PROGRESS. Chandra takes her incredible background in social work and applies it to her work with the dogs left in her care. Goose has come out of his shell with her, he trusts her as much as he trusts me, and they share a deeply special bond. She’s skilled and empathetic in her training work, and provides a truly safe, fun, and stimulating space for my anxious and traumatized puppy. While I know I’ll get amazing updates throughout the day, my trust in Chandra really stems from the difference I see in my dog. He is happy, confident, and so much himself when he’s with her and I honestly could not recommend her with more sincerity or enthusiasm. She is my first pick every time. Both Goose and I think Chandra hung the moon.

WOW!! Chandra is the real deal. I think she understands our dog better than we do! Very professional and knowledgeable about dogs. Our pup didn’t want to leave. He spent much of his time on walks or at the dog park. Chandra sent videos and pictures throughout his stay. We are so glad we found Chandra.

Information Chandra M. would like to know about your pet

I like to know, - any food allergies - their usual routine times; when do they usually eat, poop, sleep, etc - would they be safe at/ have fun at off-leash dog parks? (Sylvia Holden is around the corner, and sometimes we take trips out to Bruce Pitt) - can they be off-leash in a designated area that is not gated? (Patterson Creek and Central Park loop - also just around the corner - are partially contained, known off-leash park areas but are not fenced in and thus are not safe for dogs with untrustworthy recall or far-range-roam tendencies) - how they are on the leash? any quirks such as running for squirrels, leash aggression or reactivity, any triggers such as skateboards or bikes - are their vaccinations are up to date; and does that include kennel cough - are certain areas off-limits? are they allowed on the couch or bed - if any commands are different from usual; if your marker words are something other than the usuals like come, wait, leave it, heel, etc. - and of course, what makes them them!!! what funny things do they do? what tricks do they like to show off? songs they like to dance to? treats they'll do anything for? THE spot for doing scratchies?

A typical day

Being located in the Glebe is amazing for dog lovers! Fun things are about a block away from where I live in all directions including; Sylvia Holden Park, Sylvia Holden off-leash dog park, Patterson Creek and its series of parks, as well as the Central Park off-leash dog park loop across from Bank street. Sometimes we adventure a bit further (if consented to by the pawrent(s)) and head out to Hamptons, Bruce Pitt or hit up a Gatineau Park trail
