This was our first-time using Rover and our first time leaving our dog for an extended period of time. CC was nice enough to come meet our dog and get to know our place prior to her scheduled stay. We arranged for house-sitting and ensured CC was aware of our desire to have her stay in our home while we were out of town. She was given extensive written and verbal directions including; allowing the dog to go out every 4-5 hours for potty breaks, feeding schedule of 3x per day, and exercise/walks 2x a day. From the time we left communication was VERY limited and only took place when initiated by me. Every time I texted, I was assured that everything was going well and that our dog was, “so sweet.” I trusted that everything had been going fine. 7 days later, we arrived home late at night. A few things were very evident upon our arrival home. 1. It was clear CC had not spent a single night in our home. 2. There was evidence of accidents/vomit in both our dog’s playpen AND her crate neither of which were cleaned up. Our dog has never had an accident in her crate or playpen as it is uncommon for dogs to have accidents in the areas they sleep. 3. We had 7 small bags of chicken breast that our dog uses as a treat and reward during walks, none of which had been touched despite our written directions 4. There was a large hole in our carpet where our dog stays in her playpen that appeared to have been chewed and ripped at. 5. Our dogs water/food bowl were both completely empty and it was apparent our dog was very thirsty/hungry I understand that dogs behave differently and are more anxious/don’t eat when their owners are gone so I cannot speak to exactly what took place while I was gone. I reached out to CC in attempt to get a clearer picture to where she affirmed that she had not spent the night in our home and that she had taken her to her own house “a couple times.” After asking how long and how often our dog had been left alone crated or in her playpen at a time, she never responded. Overall, I am disappointed that I was not made aware that our dog was being taken to another home and that CC was not staying with our dog in our house. Still today, I am unaware if our dog was sleeping alone in our house crated or if she was sleeping at CC’s home. There were also clear signs that our instructions were not followed. I realize that there are a number of circumstances that could result in some difficulty following through on the instructions we gave, but communication with us was poor despite evidence that things were not going as well as hoped. Honestly, had we known, we would have paid for/attempted to call another Rover just to make sure she had what she needed and what we asked for.
