I let the dog get to know me first.

Pet care experience

I love all dogs but if you have a Large/Strong/High energy/Anxious/Attached dog? -- I'd probably be a pretty good fit for them. I am protective, loving, patient and fun. I've learned that by keeping calm and allowing the dog to come to me on their own terms is a great way to develop a bond based on trust from the very first meeting! "The Other End of the Leash" by Patricia xx is a book I cannot recommend enough. An animal behaviorist with a PhD in Animal Psychology, Patricia recounts the many dogs she has worked with to heal over the years and shares their stories including the techniques and she used and why they work. Every day I use something I learned from her boom as I interact with my dog. It is well worth it. Here is a link to check out the audiobook here! Maggie is now 4 years old. My sweet and fun, precious Chocolate Lab is great with puppies and makes friends pretty easily. She can be shy at first taking her time to decide if she is comfortable giving others her trust but she's quick to settle in and has made lots of friends on our adventures. Maggie loves to chase balls or sticks, run on any trail anywhere outside and swimming life. She's the doggiest dog, 100% Lab and my best bud. My family growing up raised and showed German Shepherds. We had many litters of pups and always more than a few dogs at a time. I am no stranger to putting in the work to earn the affection and respect of a dog. I spent much of my childhood and adolescence grooming, training and caring for our dogs. I'm not a professional trainer and while I haven't taken "classes" professionally; my intuition, reading of situations & assessment of the personalities/play styles of so many dogs over the years that I'm confident in my ability to earn the trust and respect from most dogs which seems to work out pretty well. While I'm not able to offer a house with a yard, I I live In a very pet friendly neighborhood. Close to Wallace Park, Forest Park and a short drive to Sauvie Island. I’d love to create a solid community of animal friends and their owners built on trust and friendship. I look forward to hearing from you! I love to run/jog/hike so if you've got a pup that needs to get the energy out - I won't be walking around on my phone while your dog lolligags along by my side. I genuinely enjoy the camaraderie with the dogs and am very interactive when spending time with them. If you're looking for a daycare or a housesit/boarding situation usually any dog just kind of cruises along with Maggie and me as if they have always been part of the pack and we visit dogs or break up appointments and drives with our own little adventures along the way. Sometimes I'll leave Maggie home for some one-on-one time with just your dog or vice-versa if it seems like someone just wants to chill and not go bye bye in the car. And there are days when we hang close to home without much else going on and there are less car rides but we still adventure. A dog needs to do something fun at least once a day and I am a stickler for that rule because in the end it makes it all easier on me ;) "A tired dog is a happy dog" **While I usually have dogs with me wherever I go, there are times that it's just not possible. If you've got a dog who cannot be left alone at all then I might not be the best fit. I do always turn on a youtube video with ducks or birds for background noise and Maggie isn't terrible company. If you've got any hesitation with leaving your dog alone for at east 1.5-2 hours then I would check into some other sitters that might be a better caregiver than I could be for them. What works best for me is creating a sort of "pack" mentality between the three of us (Maggie, myself & your pup or pups). Usually all it takes is a venture into Forest Park for a bit of a forest hike, or a meal come and gone, etc. to build some trust. Building trust with all animals in my care is VERY important to me because I know once that loyalty has been earned I can count on them to behave like the goodest dogs that they are.

Cassie is a patient, caring and wonderful dog walker. She understands dogs with special needs and can communicate with them using a body language that makes dogs feel comfortable. We have an anxious dog who takes a very long time to warm up to strangers and she has taken the time (6 months!) to get to know our dog so they can be friends and she can take care of him. It gives us immense joy to know our pup has been able to build a relationship based on trust and caring. We are very pleased and would recommend Cassie to any dog who needs extra patience.

My schedule varies depending on the needs of my clients but for the most part I try to arrange things a week ahead of time and work around that as needed. My dog comes with me most places I go & is very comfortable in the car whether it's driving or hanging out while I run into a store or whatever. Since it's summer she spends a bit more time at home just because it's too hot to stay in the car. Maggie would also come stay if hired for a house sitting job so I make sure the pups meet before I confirm the booking, usually I try to set something up where we can all get together to introduce the dogs and let them share space and become familiar with one another. I have a couple seatbelts for carrjdes for those pups that get excited in the car. If your dog has specific food restrictions please let me know. It is important that any behavioral issues are shared and discussed prior to the first booking so we can have a good plan set up to avoid adding any stressful situations. If your dog prefers to cruise solo please let me know about that before the first visit so I know to be sure Maggie doesn't come all for that one. On the flip side though, Maggie is an excellent teacher has a great personality to bring along if you'd like your dog to learn how to socialize.

If youre looking for someone to stay with your pup in your home don't forget that I have a plus one. Mattie is not only the best little lady shes also had lots of experience working with mom and is a pro at her job! Any reactivity or triggers to be aware of, diet restrictions, areas to work on and any commands you are working on if I am fortunate enough to be trusted as a caretaker for your puppy.

A typical day

Hiking in Forest Park, The Gorge, 1000 Acres, etc. Swimming in Willamette @ Sellwood Park, The Columbia either on Portland side sr Broughton Beach or over just east of the I-5 bridge in Vancouver. Sometimes trips to Mt. Hood for hiking, swimming or snow play days. Walks can be turned into runs if your dog needs to burn that energy and even those around the neighborhood are something I find ways to keep jnterestint

Availability

I am available for 30-45 min scheduled walks in your neighborhood, just select the 30 minute walk option. I also really enjoy caravanning a group of dogs a few times a week for a field trip. Usually for a hike, or a fun dog park or to swim on those hot summer days. If interested in something like this please let me know! I would pick up sometime anywhere between 10am-2pm and return your pup tuckered out as promised sometime between 2pm-6pm. Please reach out to discuss your needs. If you book a 60 minute walk this is how I have set up pricing to distinguish my adventure pups from the walkers.... ...if you have some time check out some of my photos taken on adventures with the dogs. We have fun! :)
