Last summer when I was living in Bethlehem, PA, I encountered a little black stray dog living underneath the porch in the backyard. I had no idea how I would even begin to take care of it as it was extremely shy and rarely emerged from beneath the stairs. My boyfriend and I ended up leaving a bowl of water and some bread for the little guy, but after 9 days the dog still wouldn't come out. It wasn't until Casey came over that the dog (we named Phoebe) finally came out. Casey was not afraid to go near the dog, and after approaching her with dog food, Phoebe came out to play. She was running around the backyard, wagging her tail, and allowing all of us to pet her. After gaining the dog's trust throughout that day, Casey then took Phoebe to a dog shelter and followed up daily to make sure the dog was ok. If Casey can get even a stray, shy dog to trust her you bet she can care for a domesticated pup!
