Loving, Caring Pet Sitter Available

Pet care experience

I'm 60+ years old and have spent my entire life caring for dogs and cats. I have spent the last 10+ years volunteering with rescue groups as fosters and I help with our rescue's low cost vaccination clinics. I currently have 2 little ones (both rescues) ranging in age from about 8 years old to 13 years old. I know our profile reads "Carolyn & Sara....", sadly, Carolyn passed away in 2022. I have kept her name on our page since she was the one who launched our Rover profile & got us started taking care of new dog friends. We have spent several years fostering small dogs prior to them finding their forever homes. Several of these fosters were injured and due to my medical background we would be asked to help out with those. We've also adopted several of the ones that had trouble being adopted out due to being abused by young children or other issues. After years of working with them, they have learned to trust again and are happy and loving family members. I am mostly retired, working only 1 day a week at my nursing job. On that day a trusted friend comes mid day to let pups out for a potty break. So I will be home to watch over & care for your furry friend just as I do my own dogs. My dogs need a brief meet & greet prior to accepting a new client to see if everyone will get along. My girls have had difficulty with some male dog guests, so right now for everyone's safety & peace of mind I am only accepting female dogs for boarding.

Another successful stay at camp! Again, Sara is super thoughtful, always keeps me updated and I’m really happy she (and Rosemary and Millie) can take care of Sasha when I’m traveling.

We were so fortunate to find Sara. My Schnauzer, Athena, has only stayed with family so we were a little nervous to leave her while we went on vacation. Sara has such great experience with animals and didn’t mind at all that Athena was a “Velcro” dog. Athena felt right at home!! We will definitely book again!!

We were lucky to find Sara on Rover. Sasha has only been under the care of family and friends so I was very anxious about finding a dog-sitter for my equally anxious dog, especially as we had just finished a long distance move and Sasha was still adjusting to a bunch of changes related to the move. Sara is incredibly kind and considerate. Her extensive experience with rescues made me feel more comfortable with leaving Sasha in her care. We had briefly met so that our dogs could get acquainted. I liked that Sasha had some animal counselors, Rosemary and Millie, to show her the ropes. ;) Sara kept me updated each day with pictures and texts and when I came to pick Sasha up from "camp" it seemed like she was actually hesitating to leave. ? I wouldn't hesitate to drop Sasha off at Camp Sara and Friends in the future. She's definitely a gem on the app.

Safety, trust & environment

We have a large fenced in yard along with two small friendly dogs to play with if you board here. We do have a pool but neither Rosemary or Millie like to swim. If your dog enjoys the water, they are welcome to be in the pool with me. Most dogs just sniff at it once or twice & then ignore it. I go outside with a new dog the first few times, just to ensure their safety while they are getting used to a different environment. Additionally we have purchased Airtags which we attach to your pets collar - in the unfortunate case one escapes, we can quickly find them. This has never happened but you can never be too cautious.

Information Carolyn & Sara A. would like to know about your pet

We currently have small dogs -- Rosemary, a Chihuahua/Terrier mix and Millie, a Chi/Corgi mix. We've had many other dogs that have crossed over the rainbow including Chihuahua, Shih Tzu, Dachshund, Shar-Pei dogs. My dogs are more comfortable with smaller dogs, but become more comfortable with bigger dogs given a day or so. My dogs have difficulty with male dogs. They become stressed & sometimes even aggressive toward the guest dog so for everyone's safety I am not accepting male dogs at present for care in my home. It is always better for our dogs to have a meet & greet prior to the boarding time in a neutral territory. We do this at the elementary school across from our house, then walk back home together so that you & your dog can see the yard & the house. Also this helps all the dogs to be less territorial about a new friend coming into our home.

A typical day

We can lay in the recliners and watch tv while snuggling together or go on walks or play outside. The dogs can play in the yard as I work in my garden or yard. They are also good supervisors if I am doing housework or laundry chores.

Weather permitting we go for a walk around the school adjacent to our home (abt 1/2 mi) most days. If it is very cold or stormy the kids prefer we stay home, warm & dry. If it is icy or slick we stay home for safety. Also in our summer heat we walk in the morning when it is not extremely hot & humid. In the evening if the sidewalks/streets have cooled off enough we will take another walk. If it is too hot/humid for me, then it is too hot for your pet!
