Hi there! My name is Caroline and I recently said goodbye to my pup Shila in October. It has been really a difficult time since losing her and I also know it will be a while before I am able to get another dog of my own. Shila had a lot of unique challenges that I had never experienced before in a dog - she had separation anxiety and global fear. During our time together we worked very closely with positive reinforcement/force free trainers, vets, and vet behaviorists and working with her to overcome some of these challenges became a passion of mine. I truly loved nothing more than learning and growing alongside her. Please note that I am strictly R+/FF and I do not support the use of aversive training tools (E collars or prong collars). If your dog is trained using these tools I unfortunately will not be able to help out.

Caroline recently took care of my 10-year-old Maltese named Brady when I had to go out of town for a wedding. She was great about routinely checking in and making sure that all was well back at home. When we got home, the house looked great and Brady was happy as can be! Would highly recommend and would definitely love to have her watch Brady if we ever need to go out of town again.

I live in a quiet apartment complex (only 14 units total). There is no outdoor space in particular for dogs but I am very familiar with my surrounding neighborhood. I also live close to Clinton City Park. In general, dogs will have access to my whole apartment unless you share with me otherwise. My dog Shila was always allowed on my furniture (sofa and bed).

My dog took multiple medications a day so I have no problem administering medications. It'd be helpful for me to know anything and everything about your dog! Reactive towards or scared of other dogs/people/bikes etc? Do they have separation anxiety? Are they noise sensitive? There are other dogs that live at my apartment complex but as I mentioned in general it is very quiet and I have white noise machines in my apartment to drown out noises.
A typical day
I used to do a lot of enrichment with my dog Shila. I would fill boxes with hidden treats for her to shred apart. On walks she was always able to sniff whatever she pleased for as long as she wanted (as long as she wasn't eating anything that would be unsafe). I would also give her Kongs or frozen bones filled with yummy treats, lickimats, or play with puzzle toys with her. I have tons of toys in my apartment still as well. I also have 15 and 30-feet long leashes that I always walked Shila. I will never let dogs off leash but I do enjoy giving them space to roam.

Availability
I am a PA at a hospital here in Portland. I work 4 week days a week (the day I have off each week changes) but I always have weekends off. In general I'm unable to help out during the work week as I'm away from my home for 10 hours.
