Pet/Farm Care in the Pioneer Valley
Pet care experience
- I have been providing pet care services for approximately 30 years I grew up on a small farm, raising dogs, cats, rabbits, a pony, goats, and chickens, ducks, and geese. In my early teens, I also worked at a local kennel. As an adult I have worked on a horse farm with a variety of farm animals. I am available to care for your pet in your home (housesitting, feeding, exercise, etc), and/or provide check-ins. My availability usually includes weekends and holidays. I have also had some experience working with training, as a volunteer, an assistance dog candidate, in his early months. This involved socialization and household acclimation. I have an interest in positive reward training. I have had the experience of owning and working with many breeds (pure- and mixed) of dogs as well as cats, smaller house pets, and hobby farm occupants. I have adopted a puppy whom I plan to train as therapy dog in my work. My geographic availability is primarily Hampshire and Franklin counties, but I will consider the North Quabbin area, and portions of Hampden and Berkshire counties.
Reviews
Carol took good care of our dog and cat and left the house clean. We would be happy to have her again.
Carol is so kind and was very sweet with Penelope. She was respectful of our space and left it very clean after her stay. Our puppy was happy when we returned, having obviously been well cared for. We look forward to having Carol watch Penelope again soon!
Carol took awesome care of our dog, Charlie, and of our house. We highly recommend and would book again w/Carol without the slightest hesitation. Thank you!
Carol was great!

Safety, trust & environment
I carry out the care that the pet experiences in their own home. I follow the protocol as it is set by the pet's owner(s) (preferably during the Meet & Greet) and provide updates regularly.
Information Carol D. would like to know about your pet
I like to know about the pet's personality, as well as information about 'triggers'. Of course the pet should be up-to-date on immunizations. I definitely have favorite breeds, but no preferences for care. I have declined to take on caring for an animal because it displayed ongoing fear and aggression toward myself and other nonfamily members, but I have never refused to care for an animal due to its breed.
A typical day
In addition to playing games in the backyard, I enjoy hiking. I like exploring various areas which welcome pets. If the dog is social, I may consider a dog park (being on the lookout that other dogs are also social!) . Socially fit dogs engaging in playgroups can be fun when monitored closely.
