Toy Breed Luv - 24/7 TLC Provided

Pet care experience

Specializing in toy breeds & seniors. Your fur baby will never be left alone when you book with me! ♡ Hi, I'm Carli! I've always had a special place in my heart for dogs. I had my first dog, a Shetland Sheepdog, when I was 5, and haven't been without one since, owning and learning about many different breeds both growing up, and on my own as an adult. As a young child, I used to seek out and read a lot of books about dog breeds and dog training. The first dog to be primarily my responsibility was Annie, a black Labrador Retriever my parents got as a puppy when I was 9. She was only 8 weeks old when we brought her home, and I was her main person. I used to sing her to sleep when she'd cry in the night as a puppy. While she was quite the handful, as Labradors often are, I worked with her all the time, taught her lots of tricks, and found a best friend in her. She was one of those especially special dogs, and I still miss her. You could say I considered my dogs my closest friends growing up. When I was around 10, I got to order personalized return address labels for pen pals, and for the additional line they give you for a job title etc., I decided to put "Dog Lover," much to the amusement of some adults. I guess being a Rover provider now makes that legit. :-) I've always loved meeting other people's dogs too, maybe even a bit more than the people. It's extremely unusual for a dog not to like me! I have a loving nature in general, but there's nothing quite like puppy love, and we're known to spoil our dogs in this household. I'm fairly well traveled and educated, with a degree in psychology, whatever that's worth for dog sitting! My first job was as a caregiver in a daycare, and I babysat a lot when I was younger, which is probably somewhat more relevant experience. It has been awhile, but I've taken courses for CPR certification and safe food handling in the past. I am soft spoken, and have a caring, maternal manner. Animals generally respond well to me. I'm physically disabled. My situation became more serious in 11/2015, when I had a complex foot surgery which resulted in a severe neurological pain condition in my foot. It's called CRPS, isn't very well understood or treated, but is considered one of the most painful diseases in existence. I'd struggled with poor health for many years prior, mostly due to Fibromyalgia, which is also not well understood or treated, but this in addition has now mostly "grounded" me, so I'm almost always home now, cuddling my little pups. It's therapeutic for me to interact lovingly with animals and play with them! Because I am generally housebound, I can give your dog constant supervision and attention. Most people need or want to go out at least now and then, but I will be dependably home for your pet if you book with me. If I have any appointment or other plans for a day, I won't list availability. If I host your dog, I'll be happy to text you photos of them comfortably napping snuggled in my bed, enjoying their favorite treat, or having fun playing, so you can have peace of mind about their well-being to relax and enjoy some hiking, your weekly date night, a quiet getaway, a night at Pappy and Harriet's or elsewhere, Coachella Fest (I've been lucky enough to go a few times, it's AMAZING!,) or whatever else you may be up to, whether in the area or taking a trip out of town. We live extremely close to the popular destinations of Joshua Tree National Park and Pioneertown, and just a short distance from Palm Springs, in a cozy home that we do our best to keep clean and calm. We keep it comfortably heated or cooled indoors, as appropriate for the season. We have a large fenced backyard and covered patio with room to play, explore, or take a nap in the sun, weather permitting. They will usually spend most of the time inside, but parts of the yard are shaded for them. Drinking water will of course always be provided. Our home is free of smoke and cats. My teenage daughter Becca is sometimes home when not at school, and has the same affection for dogs that I do. My husband Robert is often at work in Palm Springs, but will see them if they stay overnight or on weekends. He took a year of veterinary college during his youth in Upstate New York, so has had some education about animals, and loves our visitors too. Being dog people was one of the first important things we had in common as a couple! We enjoy taking our own fur babies to our local small dog park, Essig Park, and love to take our little guests along to meet everyone when able. We go most evenings of the week in the warmer months. We are centrally located right in the middle of town, just off Highway 62, which is just off I-10. A friend who is a successful provider for Rover locally recommended I try this because she thought I and my situation would be a perfect fit, and it has been great! It's awesome to have found such a rewarding way that I can still work despite my physical limitations. I'm excited to continue building on the reputation I've started here, and will do everything I can to ensure you're delighted with the service. I always love to meet and care for more sweet pups! Please feel free to ask any additional questions, or bring up any important concerns about things that might come up during the stay that I perhaps forgot to cover, or are unique to your dog!

My pup had a blast staying at Carli for the day while I explored around Joshua tree, which didn't allow dogs. I reached out to Carli the day before and she was able to accommodate me and my pup! Would definitely send my pup to her again if I'm visiting in the area.

Carli was amazing! She was very communicative before and during my dogs stay. She sent many pictures and a few videos and seems to really love dogs. My dogs seemed to love their 4 hour stay. Got to play outside in fenced in backyard and played with her dogs and their toys. They were ready and leashed when I was there to pick them up and genuinely seemed happy. Thank you, Carli!

Carli was a wonderful sitter - very communicative and accommodating to schedule changes. Lots of photos and videos reassured me that my little guys were in good hands and more than that they were comfortable playing and having fun. I highly recommend Carli anytime.

Information Carli A. would like to know about your pet

I would like to know their usual routine, commands, feeding instructions, activities they enjoy, potty habits, favorite treats, even favorite music, anything I can do to make their stay more fun and stress free! You know them best, so please communicate with me because that is always the key to a good experience. Because of my own special needs, I can't watch large breed dogs. A big dog wouldn't fit in our bed, so may feel left out with the others sleeping with us in it, would frighten my toy dogs, and may just be too much for me to care for in general, so it wouldn't be a good fit. This could be negotiable if your bigger dog is extremely well behaved and laid back, and I don't happen to be sitting any toy dogs at the time. If I am watching your toy breed, they will be around other small dogs exclusively. I cater to sweet little lap dogs who need a lot of attention, love and cuddles to soothe their anxiety, or just need a loving home away from home, but don't require a great deal of physical exertion to provide care. If you have this type of dog and worry about leaving them with just anyone who might not be understanding of their separation anxiety, or capable of providing for the needs of a clingy and demanding dog, please consider giving me a try, as I think we would be a perfect fit. Any dog-aggressive animal is a risk I am not willing to take, for the sake of my own pets and yours. Otherwise, we just ask that your dog not be destructive to the house and furniture, and vaccinated/wormed/not carrying anything contagious. Special needs are no problem at all, as long as they're clearly explained. I can administer oral/topical medication or whatever is needed, though I am not prepared to administer injections. Some of my favorite breeds that I'd be comfortable watching are Poodle, Chihuahua, Maltese, Yorkie, Shih Tzu, Lhasa Apso, Pomeranian, Bichon Frise, Dachshund, Pug, Havanese, and French Bulldog! Feel free to ask me about your dog, if you're unsure. I'll ask you some questions and should be able to get a good idea of whether or not they would work out in our home.

A typical day

While I am unable to walk outside, they can run and explore in the backyard with my dogs all they want, as long as they won't try to escape our chain link fence. Please let me know if they have a tendency to try to dig out, and we will keep them leashed when they potty outside if so! We will play inside with our mountain of cute and fun dog toys if they're into it, play fetch, or if they're the type to want or need to sleep a lot, I will make them as comfy as I can with a peaceful environment and give them their space. We have dog beds, and you're welcome to bring your dog's, but the dogs who stay overnight usually end up joining us with our dogs in our bed anyway! :-) We keep high quality grain free treats and food in the house for our dogs, please let me know of any other dietary restrictions! We get a monthly BarkBox, so have a steady supply of high quality treats and toys available. While I can't go for walks myself, my husband is often able to accommodate an afternoon or evening walk if your dog needs them and is staying overnight. Everyone in this house will dote on your pet if they are home, but I will always be home and attentive. My nearly 12 year old Chihuahua, Buster, is neutered, and generally tolerates other small dogs, but is afraid of people he doesn't know, especially men, and big hyper dogs. He's only 6 lbs. Our year old 8 lb Maltipoo, Yoshimi, is a very sweet and playful little girl. She usually gets along with other dogs, though she is afraid of large dogs and strange humans. Buster won't play with her, so she loves to have another dog visit who actually wants to. She can be a little anxious meeting other dogs at first, but is good once she sees them as friendly. We all spend a lot of time in bed cuddling, and I will be happy to bring your pup into my home and spoil it rotten with love and care just like I do my own!
