I love dogs! Cats too! Any animals!

Pet care experience

Hi, I’m temporarily traveling to Oliver, BC, from Sunday, March 17th, to March 24th, and then potentially again in May and likely sometime again in the summer. Since I have family there and travel to the area often, I thought I’d try, as some other Rover sitters do, and offer services while up there from my usual home base in Vancouver, BC. Let me know if you’re in need of house sitting, walks, or drop-ins (sorry, no boarding or daycare available during any of those time periods in the Okanagan area). Don’t worry too much about whatever the calendar in the app shows as my availability, as some of the default settings are off due to different availability at home. So, message me anyway, and we can see what can be worked out. Below is my regular profile as it applies in Vancouver normally, or if you’re interested in services in the Lower Mainland. Hi, I’m a single mom with a 17-year-old son who also LOVES animals. We would desperately love to own a pet, but due to my health issues, I’m unable to work outside of home full-time. Since my disability income is very limited, my main concern with owning a pet is that I can’t provide adequate vet care for an animal, which is the only thing that prevents me from getting one. I grew up with pets and had my own dog in adulthood from 8 weeks to 14 years, so I know how to cope with all stages from puppy teething to senior care. She passed away a few years back, and we miss her so much. We would love to give your pet all the animal love we have to give but have no pet to give it to! My priority in this venture isn’t to make money; I will love and care for your pets as if they are my own!

Cara did a great job looking after my just over 1 year old Havanese (Benny) for daycare. Lots of communication throughout the stay including photos and videos. She was even able to accommodate me when my pick up time was later than expected. When I picked up Benny up he was not too tired or exhausted - I could tell he was treated well. Would highly recommend and will definitely use Cara again in the future.

Cara was the perfect minder for my Dad's elderly Yorkie-Poo while he was in the hospital. She went out of her way to make the situation comfortable for us all. Her photos provided assurance that all was well. We have gone back since and will use Cara in future without hesitation.

Cara was excellent; she really went above and beyond at every step of the pet sitting process! She was quick to respond both during booking and while I was away, and super accommodating when I needed to adjust the drop-off date/time due to changing travel conditions. She also sent daily photos and updates, which was a huge comfort as I had never left my pets (dog and cat) with a stranger before and I was quite nervous about booking through an online service. She even gave them Christmas presents/treats so that they had something to open on Christmas morning! When I came to pick them up, she had everything very nicely and neatly packed and sent us off with some very tasty Christmas cookies. She is very kind and professional and clearly loves and is good with animals--my dog can be difficult but I could tell from her interactions with him during drop-off and pick-up that she knows what she's doing! Overall, she made the experience very smooth and worry-free, and the daily photos/updates made it so that I could actually enjoy my vacation without constantly wondering how they were doing. I would definitely book with her again!

We have a small 2 bedroom apartment but we make most of it with lots of fun toys, treats & mental stimulation activities for rainy days like treat balls, lick mats, laser chase or whatever they are drawn to ! We have a somewhat covered balcony that overlooks the park right beside us. If they enjoy to sit and watch the world go by there …it’s perfect pet tv! We will take them out to nearby walks or to the fenced in dog park down street(has a separate small dog area too!) if they are the type to be able to do that . We will always take cue from what you tell us and from what the pet needs or is drawn to … they are in charge in our house 😂they are allowed on any furniture etc! Pet must be able to navigate stairs (or allow to be picked up) as we have a set that you must go up from our front door. We have a car and will with your approval sometimes take them for a ride to check out other areas for longer walks but if they are older and slow going that’s ok too …as so am I .🤣

Information Cara P. would like to know about your pet

One concern I do have is how much they pull on the leash so please tell me in advance as I have some chronic neck & back issues that can be adversely affected by the pulling motion if dog is continuously fighting against the leash the entire walk with no pausing or slack in leash . If your not sure if your dog’s pulling is this level I’m referring to just let me know in advance so I can arrange a free drop in/walk for you and to see how they are with me but just so you know it’s rarely an issue. Also I’m willing to try some training around this if need be if abd they are on smaller side . To be clear they DON’T have to ‘heel’ perfect or never pull…some pulling is ok ?? I get it sometimes you see a squirrel or another dog and you just gotta go ?lol ❣️that I’m fine with I’m more interested in if they pull continuously aggressively for whole walk.. If that’s the case it may have to be my teen son who does some of the walking part for me if your ok with that? please let me know any concerns you may have regarding that. I’ve labelled under 40lbs but I actually have a soft spot for big dogs (as that’s what I’ve always had in past ) and am willing to take them if bigger but only if also older/ slower and if they don’t pull continuously etc...Lastly I would request that they are mostly house trained as being in apartment with no yard they would need to be able to wait till we went out every few hours at least. Of course accidents are understandable (as my dog got older she had a lot of those ?so I totally understand if that’s the case) but generally house trained is needed. If they are younger and still learning just mention this in advance please so we can put out some puppy pads etc ! ??✌️

A typical day

I will mostly walk in my neighbourhood around lower Lonsdale/waterfront park but depending on how dog listens to me I have a vehicle so I can take them to an off leash dog park or trails or the river etc...we love to play games like fetch etc too

Availability

Please note afternoons only for drop ins , walks & any transportation services I’m only available in afternoons/evenings on NORTH SHORE (deep cove to west van) . Rover only allows me to select a radius and since I live close to waterfront it will include across the water in vancouver but this is not always doable due to traffic issues on bridges . Sone exceptions may be able to be made to time/locations please feel free to ask ! I’m home most days and times unless I have medical appointments etc but would arrange with you in advance if I was leaving them alone . It’s rare that would happen because If I’m not home then usually my teen son is home! He has a very good understanding of dog care and a natural aptitude for putting them at ease. He’s even considering a career working with dogs after highschool! So if you’re comfortable with him doing short close by walks with your pet he’s looking to gain work experience hours for his school requirements. If you’re not comfortable with that and prefer your dog only walked by me for any reason please don’t hesitate to mention any concerns!
