Oak Harbor ~ CampPawsum

Pet care experience

HELLO, AND WELCOME! ABOUT US: We are fellow dog lovers! We've had dogs since we were little, and the years of experience reflect only one of our adult lives, so multiply that x2, plus childhood, and you have a number that we are so not putting down. 😊 We have flexible at-home work schedules that allow us to give your dogs the care, love, and attention that they need and we know you want for them. We have been set up as repeat guests only for quite some time, but right now we are opening back up to welcome and enjoy new furry faces, as over time a few of our repeats have moved and we need to fill the void! HOW MANY AT A TIME WILL WE TAKE IN? We usually have only one family of dogs at a time, unless they are super friendly and are known to us, and the owners are okay with mingling with other super friendly dogs that are known to us. We are still careful about their introductions. If families with dogs that already know each other want their dogs to hang out at camp together, we can certainly do that! PHOTOGRAPHS: You will get daily photo updates! We love doing this. So as not to inundate, we will usually update at the end of the day to make sure you know your dogs are healthy, happy, safe, and sound and learn what their activities have been for the day. Of course, less active dogs and gloomy weather can each sometimes restrict a lot of the photography action, but we will still do our best to ensure you get pictures! SOCIALIZING: We're very cautious about introductions. Ordinarily, we introduce them at our solid, tall, wide kitchen gate, and if the dogs are extra tall, we double gate! If it seems they are all showing receptive, nonhostile signs toward each other, we progress to outside and leashes, and then once that all goes well, we let them loose to play. If they don't seem to favor each other, we just let them get to know each other comfortably from opposite sides of the gate at an even slower pace. Sometimes they take to each other super fast and other times not at all, but we always strive for their visits to be as stress-free as possible. Dog mingling all depends on their unique chemistry, temperaments, judgment, fixed status, and, of course, your preference. SUPERVISION: Your dogs will never be alone, never be caged, always have someone beside them to play with, rest with, and while outside, they're always kept safe inside the fenced-in yard with us. OUR PET FAMILY: We have 3 cats and 3 dogs. The cats have plenty of their own high ground, gated off areas, and completely separate spaces, so they have places to observe and feel safe and superior, as well as places to just chill and do their own thing without a dog in sight. Our dogs are all getting older and used to dogs coming around. They, too, always have someone with them if they don't feel like mingling with newcomers. This way, the whole household stays spoiled and content.

We have been using Rover for years and Camp Pawsum is the best! They were patient with my big nervous girl and helped her get comfortable. She was pooped after her visit from all the play and on top of that, I got some amazing pictures! A+ communication. A+ Rover.

My deaf dog, Buddy, has severe separation anxiety, to the point that a certified separation anxiety trainer cannot get him past the point of letting me leave long than 1 1/2 minutes without stressing out. With COVID, I was out of work for 6 months and got Buddy 4 months ago. Starting back to work, I was sooo nervous to leave Buddy with someone else, then I came across CampPawsum and it sounded great! Buddy has now gone for a week during my full-time hours and he seems to love it! He runs to Dan every morning and the last time I picked him up before the weekend, he didn’t want to leave and tried to pull back to the fence. I get about 10 pictures a day (great quality!) and daily updates! The location adds about an extra hour to my commute in the morning and another hour after work but it is worth it! I know Buddy is in good hands and that he is happy and cared for.

Information Daniel G. would like to know about your pet

BREED PREFERENCES: We love them all! Puppies on the whole are a little different because their immune system is not fully developed, so they have a higher risk of picking up contagious diseases and things. It's said to be best if they have had their 2nd round of shots at 4 months old, both for them and the place that might board them, but we might make some exceptions if it's an emergency. VACCINATIONS AND HEALTH: We just ask that your dogs are kept up to date on their vaccinations and flea and tick protection can be good to have as this is the country! WHAT WE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR PET: * Their diet schedule, medication schedule (if any), and any specific daily routine needs. * Anything else you feel we should know!

A typical day

Here at CampPawsum, we have plenty of space, gates, cushions, beds, throws, furniture steps, rugs, pads, and toys. We also have a large fenced-in yard, a large walk-out unfinished basement, and lots of things to keep your dogs cozy, comfortable, safe, busy (and also rested), to help them to be as free of stress and worries as they can be while their parents need to be away! For your dogs, we're a camp, a home away from home.
