Hello! I volunteer weekly with the East Bay SPCA's Behavior and Training team. This means that I have gone through additional dog behavior and training courses taught by SPCA trainers and behaviorists. Because of my work at the SPCA, I have worked with all types of dogs, from Chihuahuas to Great Danes and everything in between. I have worked with shy dogs, fearful dogs, reactive dogs, and "impolite" dogs (our term for those dogs who are just too friendly). I use clicker training to modify behavior, as used by the East Bay SPCA. I really enjoy working with more timid dogs who need a bit more reassurance and time to warm up to new people. From my work at the SPCA I have become quite good at understanding dog communication. By watching a dog's body language I can tell if it is relaxed or anxious or scared or happy. It is good when working with dogs in public spaces to be able to read their subtle signals. It can really help you avoid sticky situations! My family always had dogs growing up. I started walking dogs in middle school and dog-sat up through college. I have decades of experience caring for other people's dogs, and my passion for dogs and dog behavior motivates my work at the SPCA. I love to go on hikes and would enjoy taking your K9 companion with me!
