The dogs I have most recently had in my home have been larger- a Labradoodle and a chocolate Lab, but I've also had a small Shit Tzu. I also have experience sitting a tiny, energetic Chihuahua :)

First and foremost, I feel it's important to know the rules every owner enforces on their dog. I want to keep up with any training habits your have instilled in your pup. I like to let a dog (or dogs) get to know me by getting down to their level and having some good old fashioned petting, belly rubbing, and playing time. This helps me get to know a dog's personality, their energy level, what interests them, how they like to feel spoiled, etc. I like to go for walks, and I especially feel like letting a dog loose in a dog park to play is freeing for a city dog- but I'm always careful to evaluate the behavior of other loose dogs in the park- safety first! I'm not afraid to get down and dirty if a pup has an accident. And I love to just cuddle up (on the floor, couch, chaste lounge, etc) and have snuggle time with a Fido or Fidette.
