Knowledgeable dog owner and trainer

Pet care experience

I can provide confident, patient, and experienced care for your animal(s). I have work experience at a dog day care and training facility in Austin. After apprenticing under a CPDT-KA (certified professional dog trainer-knowledge assessed) dog trainer, I am well-versed in least-invasive, minimally-intrusive techniques to help you and your dog coexist happily, whether that means they need a long walk or in-home enrichment. At the day care and training facility, I orchestrated play times and sorted dogs based on size, temperament, and play style. I understand that each dog has unique needs and behaviors. I have spent time around a variety of breeds and personalities, including everything from jumping pups, fat cats, timid or aggressive dogs, and even cared for K-9s from the local police department. After going through training with my American Pit Bull Terrier, I understand the importance of detailed care and consistency. I am patient and promise to care for your dog as I would my own. And no worries -- I love snuggles! My experience and comfort coupled with my love for pups means your animals will be in great hands.

Juice is making great progress on leash with Caitlyn's guidance and instruction. Every walk we have gets a little bit better with less pulling and more paying attention. She gives me valuable feedback about what he is doing and how I can help him.

Caitlyn did a great job walking Juice, my lab pup. Juice is just over a year old and although he does pretty good on leash for a pup, he still pulls a little. Caitlyn is helping to correct that issue and giving him some exercise too. She provided much appreciated videos of the techniques she uses and gave me some written instructions to follow too. She even let me borrow a particular kind of harness until the one I ordered arrives. Very happy to have found her on here and for the progress Juice is making!

Safety, trust & environment

I am adept at out-maneuvering escape artists and exceedingly cautious with dogs on leash. Your dog’s safety is my top priority in the home or on a walk.

Information Caitlyn C. would like to know about your pet

Please provide me with information on your dog’s typical routine and any behavioral issues or quirks. For drop-ins, I like to know if your dog will be crated or loose in the home, any dietary restrictions, any favorite toys, and where important items like leash/collar and food belong. For walks, I like to know how your dog does with other humans, dogs and if he/she experiences any prey drive (I.e. chasing, barking, lunging at squirrels, birds, or other smaller dogs).

A typical day

Depending on the day, my own dogs get long walks, enrichment activities, and lots of time sniffing in the backyard with supervision. During drop ins, I will make sure your dog gets a walk and sufficient potty break, as well as a romping play session before I leave. My goal is to effectively tire your pup out by meeting basic needs (I.e. potty, feeding, exercise) and then engaging with their brain through games and/or training. Walks can be exploratory or structured. In an exploratory walk, I allow lots of sniffing time and engaging with environment (not other dogs unless agreed upon). These walks are great for your dog, as sniffing is a natural stress-reliever for dogs. These walks will often be longer in time but shorter in distance. In structured walks, I will focus on your dog’s leash walking skills and distance of the walk. These structures walks are great for a dog needing focus on loose-leash walking or to get their required exercise for the day.
