As a dog foster with Austin Pets Alive! (and repeated “foster-failure”), I’ve worked with many different types of dogs: medical cases, those with a bite history, and—definitely the most difficult—litters of puppies! I even adopted one of my medical fosters, so I am not phased by dogs who may present a bigger challenge, and, in the event of an emergency, I can carry dogs up to 100lbs. I have a soft spot for old dogs and dogs who have behavioral challenges (I have rehabilitated over a dozen dogs with documented bite histories), but I love dogs of all shapes and sizes and like to take the time to get to know the individual dog. For this reason, I strongly prefer to do a meet and greet before caring for a dog. I also think it’s important to keep training consistent—and I know how important mental stimulation is, especially for working dogs—so if you let me know what you’ve been working on with them, I’ll make sure to keep up with it! Leaving your pet in the care of someone else can be stressful. I am probably the worst when it comes to this, so I know how important it is to get picture and video updates to actually *see* they’re in good hands.
