I adopted my Great Dane Mastiff mix, Lena, almost two years ago. I adopted her without knowing that she severe anxiety and fear aggression. She brief snarled and tried to bite anything or anyone who would go near her. She quickly atttached to me, a rather small 23 year old woman, whom could not handle her massive strength. I didn’t know why to do as I couldn’t handle her but I knew if I took her back to the shelter she would likely not find a home with her size and aggression. So I called Bruce, and the next day he was t my door. He came in cautiously as Lena barked nd growled at him. She lunged and bite at his arm, but instead missed and caught his sleeve. Bruce handled it calmly and set up an intense training plan to desensitize her to her fears. We thought it would take as long time for her to test him. But within 3 visits she would excitedly wait for him at the door. She adored Bruce, and I completely trusted him. After the initial trust home based training was complete we ventured out into the neighborhood and then parks and other public locations. He used all positive training. No prong collars, no shock collars, nothing. Only food and love as motivation. It took dedication to continue to socialize her but I could see her beginning to open up and become a much happier dog. We worked on fence aggression, bikes, joggers, children, everything. Then Bruce brought her to the dog park on one of her walk without me. And she absolutely loved it. She trusted him enough to not only go in but she actually played with the other dogs. I take her to the dog park nearly everyday, and it still brings me tears of joy to see her running around and loving the happy care free life that she deserves after years of abuse and neglect from her previous owners. She even has a group of dog park friends that she thinks are in her squad. I could have never have made this transformation happen without Bruce. He was dedicated to my dog; you could see they were his passion. He gave me all the tools I needed and was there every step of the way to rehabilitate her. He still checks in on us to see her progress and how she is doing.
