Dogs are people

Pet care experience

Experience: I am a volunteer at the CCAS animal shelter in Pinole where I work with dogs of every breed and personality. I have extended experience with bullies as I grew up with them and work primarily with bullies at the shelter, and I also have experience with shepherds and huskies (we've seen a huge influx at the shelter because of Game of Thrones). My responsibilities at the shelter include walking and engaging with the dogs, working on leash etiquette and basic commands, and helping to build their confidence by providing them lots of love, encouragement, and socialization. Special Skills: Each dog has their own personality and comes with their own set of challenges. Being able to read their body language is key in making sure they are successful in becoming a happy, confident, well behaved dog.

Calm, kind, attentive sitter. We came home to happy, healthy dogs. Would recommend her!

Brooke is AWESOME. We have a sweet but challenging 2 yo German Shepherd who has recently regressed in his training having had to undergo multiple ortho surgeries. We haven’t been able to really leave him with family or friends as we needed someone more skilled in dealing with large breed rescue pups with high anxiety. ? Brooke was fantastic. She stayed at our house, adapted to our training regimen, and took great care of him. He was happy to see us when we returned but definitely seemed content and at ease despite us being away for the week. I. Addition, she updated us daily and took fabulous care of our house.

I cannot thank Brooke enough. We had a last minute need for our elderly Labrador, and Brooke was more than accommodating. She went above and beyond to make sure our sweet old girl was safe and comfortable while we were away. She was very understanding of all of our dogs needs and kept in contact with us daily to give us updates. 10/10 would book again, and recommend to others. Thanks Brooke!

Brooke was great. She watched our dogs for 5 days and we got frequent updates. Our excitable dog didn't even jump on us when we got home so he must have been having lots of fun in our absence.

Safety, trust & environment

Safety trust environment are an essential part of my animal/dog-sitting responsibilities. I check in with parents daily with texts and pictures. I also make sure to keep animals on their normal schedules-feeding, walking, playtime, etc will all happen at the time they are used to. Consistency and routine is key; I want to eliminate any unnecessary anxieties that your pets might experience when you are away.

Information Brooke P. would like to know about your pet

I do not have any breed restrictions. I need to know how the dog is on leash-if s/he pulls, if s/he is dog-reactive (aggressive or playful), if /she lunges toward cats/squirrels/other dogs, if s/he is sensitive to any sounds or fast/unexpected movements, and I need to know how s/he reacts to strangers. If we are on a walk these are all things I need to know in order to keep things safe and pleasant. I also need to know what commands your dog responds to and how you have corrected/trained him/her so I can do the same. I need to know his/her energy level, if s/he has any separation anxiety, if s/he likes to chew on couches, bones, shoes, etc., or has demonstrated food or resource guarding. I need to know if your pup has any allergies or food sensitivities and if s/he is on any medication for that. If your dog has funny quirks , I would love to know these, too.

A typical day

We can go for walks in the Berkeley hills, into town, and take strolls through the neighborhoods. I also live near the UC campus which is really beautiful, wooded with creeks running through it where we could do some exploring. I am also open to whatever your dog loves/is used to.
