Walking Dogs For 20 Years
Pet care experience
Former manager of Head to Tail: Grooming & Boarding. My responsibilities included monitoring day care groups to ensure dogs stayed safe during play. It was part of my duties to ensure that the dogs had an enriching environment to allow them to express their energy in a healthy and supervised environment. We discouraged negative behavior (e.g. humping, digging) using gentle correction methods. Usually, saying a dog's name is enough to distract them from a negative task, and refocus their attention to something you want them to do. Working as primary kennel attendant, I was responsible for making sure everyone was fed and medicated. As a result, I've had lots of practice giving fussy dogs their medication. Additionally, I have experience with managing the anxiety that leads some dogs to exhibit confrontational, and even aggressive behavior towards other dogs and/or people. Whether this means turning around or crossing the street to avoid conflicts, I do my best to ensure a smooth and stress free walk for your pups. Prior to working for a boarding facility, I ran my own pet-sitting business for three years. I have now been in the DC area for 5 years, and pet-sitting just as long.
Reviews
Brooke was incredible with our very anxious, reactive rescue pup. He has had a rough history w boarding facilities and we were losing hope that we’d ever feel comfortable traveling again. Brooke was professional, prompt, responsible, communicative, and endlessly patient with our high maintenance pup. We feel very lucky to have found Brooke and are feeling a huge sense of relief and gratitude after our first overnight stay with her!
Brooke was super professional and patient with Otto who was very anxious on his first day with her as he had just gotten off a plane from London. She kept me up to speed on how he was doing. She was punctual and was flexible when my work meetings ran over and she had to stay on for a bit longer. Would highly recommend. Thanks Brooke - Otto misses you :)
Brooke was a godsend! We had to travel unexpectedly and Brooke (having never met us or Jack before) responded immediately and called me to ask questions about Jack’s care. I was super impressed with how thorough Brooke was. During the stay we got lots of pictures and I can tell Jack was well taken care of and loved on! Would highly recommend Brooke!
Brooke stayed with my two dogs for one week. They did a great job with my detailed instructions. They were easy to work with and very conscientious, punctual, communicative and caring. The dogs were quite content and my home was left clean and tidy. I would definitely have her stay with my pets again.

Safety, trust & environment
I will care for your pets as though they are my own. I will ask whether they have a history of escaping, and learn the methods you use to keep them safe. I also ask about certain behaviors that can pose a risk to them. For instance, do they have a tendency to steal food off counters or sidewalks? So I can be mindful and try my best to prevent them from eating harmful things. Do they have anxiety, and what are their triggers so I can try and mitigate them. Additiionaly, what are the best methods for soothing your pet in general. I try to leave my clients' homes as nice, if not nicer than how I found them.
Information Brooke K. would like to know about your pet
I always go over a list of questions when I meet new clients. The more information I have, the better I am prepared to provide for your pets' needs. Do they have specific routes, or places they like to visit, when we're out on walks? Do they have quirks, or eccentricities that I should be on the look out for? Being well informed helps me to provide a comfortable stay for your pets, and ensures our time together goes as smoothly as possible.
A typical day
I always ask my clients what a the daily routine looks like. This is so I can meet your pets' expectations to the best of my abilities. While there may be a new person around, their day should still feel familiar to them. As this is my sole profession, I am around most of the day so your pets always have someone to hang out with.
