Caring for dogs has always been therapeutic for me. Since I was a little girl I always walked and ran with my neighbors' dogs. I grew up on the farm (where I still have access to) which came hand in hand with learning about all types of animals and their behaviors. I have never been disliked by any dog, and I can respect timidness/skeptical pups. I would never rush a pup into anything it didn't seem comfortable with (i.e. hiking through the woods, going on an extensive run, etc.), but also have no problem taking him/her along for a car ride to run some errands. The farm has many acres of both open fields and forest area, but my yard is also a perfect, fenced in area for dogs to play in!
