Communication throughout this stay was not what I expect from a Rover sitter. During an eight-day booking, I received only four photo updates, and two of those were sent only after I reached out requesting an update. The minimal updates left me feeling concerned about the level of attention my dog was receiving. It also made me worried that my dog was spending most of her day in a crate, which is exactly why we don’t board her and we always use Rover. I also noticed that none of the treats I provided were given to my dog, despite packing them for her care. I showed them to the sitter when I dropped my dog off, and I also explained that I don’t want her having any other treats because she has a sensitive stomach, so she knew they were in the bag. The sitter did mention that she was caring for other animals at the same time and that they were causing her stress. While I understand that watching multiple dogs can be challenging—I’ve been a Rover sitter myself—I still expect consistent communication and equal care for my dog regardless. If pet sitting is someone’s full-time role, additional or more difficult animals should not result in a lower standard of care for another client’s pet. Overall, this experience left me uncomfortable, and I won’t be using this sitter again.
