Animal tech in Dallas/Richardson

Pet care experience

I have worked with animals for most of my life and I am a licensed/permitted wildlife transport and rehaber through Texas Parks and Wildlife as well as have a degree in herpetology and entomology. I also float around as medical clinic and nutrition staff in my free time to many animal sanctuaries, rescues, and exotic vets in Texas (In-Sync Exotic big cats, North Texas Wildlife Center, and Rogers Wildlife avian are my most frequent currently). I have a pet emergency medical kit in my home as well as my vehicle at all times, collar clip LED lights for dark/nighttime walk safety, and Rover certified prebiotic paw and nose balm used after every outside visit in warm weather. I am a volunteer with PETA and US ARK and organize animal rights activism events all over DFW and Texas, as well as a member of Texas Animal Freedom Fighters. For ease of finding me if we have a meet and greet, I drive a silver Camaro.

Brittany was incredible. She stayed with my pup for 9 days and I couldn’t be happier. He was clearly loved like I was here the entire time. He also clearly loved Brittany too, and I loved that I didn’t have to worry about Zuko while I was gone. I’d recommend Brittany to anyone.

Brittney was amazing! We were out of town for our wedding and as imagined, we were stressed. Brittney kept our minds at ease with daily updates, pictures, and videos. Our fur baby has epilepsy and britney was great about giving her medication 4 times per day. We came home to a clean home and a happy pup! What more could you ask for? Thank you Brittney! We will be requesting you every single time!!!

Brittany was a great choice and did an amazing job! First of all, I'm impressed with how well she was able to handle both our Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab mix Dalí and our cat Kokonut. These are two very different animals with very different personalities, yet Brittany was able to care for them both in a way that they both felt loved and cared for. It's no small feat to take care of pets, and Brittany clearly has a special talent for it. Our cat Kokonut enjoyed spending time with Brittany and cuddling with her. It's a testament to her warmth and kindness, and it's clear that she has a special way with animals. Overall, I would highly recommend Brittany to anyone in need of a house sitter or pet sitter. She clearly takes her job seriously and cares deeply about the animals she cares for. Thank you, Brittany, for taking such great care of Dalí and Kokonut while their owners were away. You are truly a star!

Safety, trust & environment

If in my own home, my apartment in Lake Highlands has a doggy park with agility obstacles for high energy dogs, and my shaded patio is perfect for snoozy older dogs looking to relax or go have a stroll by one of our creeks. I have a smoke free, alcohol free, child free home. My husband Dave works during the day but he will also be home around the pets, I have added a photo of him for reference. He used to run a greyhound rescue before we moved to Dallas, so he has many years of specialized experience and training as well. I only use natural/chemical free cleaning products in my home and those are kept unaccessible in the top of my pantry. We pay for Valet Trash so our trashcan is completely outside of the apartment, which deters any pets from getting into the trash at night. The main floor of my apartment is the dedicated play area with access to it's own patio, fully open floor plan and with a closed fireplace for winter months, daily automated vacuuming/twice weekly mopping, HEPA air filters and air purifiers, a white noise machine if they need something to calm them down during the first couple days, and a portable washing machine specifically for pet items in case any collars, harnesses, etc get dirty. We do also have a community pool for pet swims on hot days. We do fully supervise water time and rinse them off directly after leaving the pool to avoid irritation from chlorine, just like us. If they happen to swim and drink some of the water, chlorinated water is safe for both humans and dogs to drink in concentrations up to 4 milligrams per liter. The recommended level of chlorine in pools and tubs is 1-3 milligrams per liter, so your dog should be fine if they ingest some of the pool water. If the dogs seem like they are willing to swim I will always get your permission first and make sure they drink as much as possible beforehand. If they aren't used to swimming on a regular basis, or are a little older, they probably won't be interested in going though. I do have a planner/journal specifically for Rover so I can keep up with specific schedules as needed. Please let me know in a message (in addition to the app selected dates) the dates/times of beginning and end of services so I make sure everything is ready! Also feel free to let me know if you would like me to save your pets routines in my folder (for future rebooking!). I prefer to have as many rebooks at possible (or be your permanent sitter) since it is much easier on the animals mental health to always have someone they know/trust/are comfortable with when their parents are away instead of a new stranger every time. I find it greatly reduces their anxiety or stress and they tend to eat better while you're away! Hunger strikes aren't that unusual. For particularly anxious pups I do have Pet Releaf products available to use upon request. Specifically Pet Releaf hemp/CBD oil (500-750mg bottles) which I put a few drops of onto Primal Freeze Dried Nuggets treats (rabbit meat formula). Both can be found at your local Hollywood Feed stores! I do try to send photos every day of the service and if I can get a good one I will add a short video during the stay as well. Feel free to reach out at any time before or during stays. I'm happy to help! Please don't feel obligated to reply to my daily updates though, I know it can get busy while you're away!

Information Brittany G. would like to know about your pet

Any food schedules/routines, medication or supplements, allergies, special needs, night lights, crate training, or general energy levels is a great heads up for me to provide the best care and experience for your loved ones. As well as other basics such as if you usually give them tap or filtered water, and if you put up the water bowl at a certain time of evening so they won't have to be let out during the night. If they are boarding with me please let me know if you can bring their bed(s), bowls, food, a toy or two, etc so I know what to expect. Also if they are reactive to other dogs/people for a reference during walks or if we need to be at the dog park alone, or if they're adverse to vacuuming (I can turn off my Roomba for the stay dates if needed, it runs every day for an hour). I do have toys here (washed after each booking) that I will offer during their stay so that new item will keep their attention, on top of the toys brought. Please also make sure that your pets claws and dewclaws are trimmed prior to the stay if possible. I also do not tolerate dogs which jump or become overly excited/erratic for food/leashing/etc. I have had far too many bloody noses, busted lips or cheeks, bitten or bloody tongues from hard hits under my chin, etc from dogs who cannot be controlled during simple tasks of me setting a food bowl down, putting a leash on, or simply sitting down and getting injured from hits in the face (it has been caused from Great Pyrenees all the way down do Dachshund size). Excitement for events and happiness from animals is more than natural and welcome, however, reinforced ~elevated~ behavior which can easily cause injury to someone is not. As of late 2021 I am no longer offering exercise walks during sits. I have unfortunately experienced an extremely high rate of outside safety situations that I prefer to keep walks to an absolute minimum (in and out for potty time if there is not access to a back yard). Regrettably there are many people who walk and exercise their dogs off leash in Dallas neighborhoods or local parks, which leads to potential altercations. Either dog(s) may have social or territorial aggression, fear or nervousness, generally be dog reactive, etc. For the safety of everyone I no longer offer exercise walks and I do hope that is understandable, however I am always willing to discuss it. Thanks so very much for reading and considering me to care for your loved ones, I look forward to hearing from you!

A typical day

My apartment complex has a small dog park as well as a lovely creek and forest greenery to walk by. Lots of exercise and energy can be spent or just a relaxing day by the fireplace, on the shaded patio, or pool! I also do one-two 10 minute brushing sessions per day, I have my own brushes for different coat types.
