Run or walk & obedience training

Pet care experience

**Update: my availability has been reduced to some weekday evenings and weekends. My name is Britt and I am a recent graduate who lives in the Slabtown area. Now that I have more free time on my hands, I enjoy providing care and exercise for furry friends. Growing up on a farm, animals were a way of life. From horses, goats, chickens, cats, and dogs, my family always had animal companions. Dog walking and pet sitting has been my longest running side job. One of my first experiences with pet sitting was in middle school when I looked after a Collie, two Shih Tzus, and two Himalayan cats for an entire summer. Since then, I've taken care of and personally raised all types of dogs, from big and small to old and puppy age. My previous clients still like to keep in touch and tell me about how well behaved their pets became after I started looking after them. I take dogs for walks, feed and water them, work on obedience commands, brush and rinse them off if needed, provide playtime with toys, and cuddles if your pup likes affection. In addition to providing pet services as a personal business, I have volunteered as a dog walker at an animal shelter to bring love and exercise to dogs who are in the most need. I'm also very fond of cats so I'd love to be their companion while you are away. Whatever your dog's energy level, I will be able to accommodate their exercise demands be it a leisurely walk to a brisk jog. For dogs that are efficient joggers, I can usually cover 2 miles in 30 minutes (~13-15 minute mile). **Dog running comes at an additional charge.** I have plenty of experience walking elder dogs, nervous dogs, energetic bouncy puppies, happy dogs that want to jump on people, leash aggressive dogs, duos, trios, and oddball pairs. I use positive reinforcement with clicker training to help show dogs how to behave politely on walks. If you are new to town, I'm also happy to provide recommendations about Portland and your neighborhood if I know the area well.

Brittany was great! Kept us updated, sent pictures, and even fixed a plant that our michevious cats knocked over! We will definitely be using her again next time we're out of town!

My dog is my life and I am one of those owners that does not trust anyone with my little man. I have complete control of him but he will walk all over people that dont understand how to handle terriers. When I moved to this area I went through the rounds with walkers until I found Brittany. She has been patient, understanding and communicative from day one. When everyone else walked my pup for .5 miles in 30 minutes she gets him to walk 1.5 miles. I have recommended her to 5 people that are just as happy with her care and thank me for the recommendation every time I see them at the dog park.

Britt was awesome! She came by while I was out of town to visit and feed my cat, Birdie. Really appreciate the pics she sent. My cat was well taken care of!

Information Brittany D. would like to know about your pet

For Walking: I'd like to know what type of exercise is best for your dog. Does your dog have triggers like cats, squirrels, other dogs? Is your dog more dominant or submissive with other dogs, and does this depend on the type of dog they are encountering? I have also found it very informative to know if your dog likes to be sneaky and eat weird stuff off the ground. I always keep a watchful eye but am extra vigilant if I know in advance. It would also be nice to have a towel left outside the door so that I can wipe down the dog before coming inside just in case we encounter mud or rain. If hosing off the dog is needed after a muddy romp, please let me know. For Sitting: I will need to know your dog's usual schedule. What time do they have meals? How often are they walked? How often do they need to go out for a potty break? Are they fully potty trained? Do they still have accidents inside? Do they take medication? How will I be accessing your residence? My sitting service covers mornings, evenings, and staying overnight. Mid-day visits will need to be discussed. For dog sitting that includes cat care, I am very accommodating with modifying the cat care rate.

A typical day

Depending on your dog, I'll try to make it out to nature trails or parks if it fits within our time frame. I also take dogs to fenced in dog parks with owner's approval. If your dog is older and doesn't handle uneven surfaces and hills so well, I'll be sure to focus on taking it slow and avoiding uneven surfaces. If I am sitting for your dog, in addition to walks or runs, we will play with toys while also working on obedience commands. It's fun for me when I can get a dog to expand their skills!
