Experience w/ Active&Special Needs

Pet care experience

Basset Hounds are natural characters and totally unforgettable––their droll eyes, wing-like ears, spotted fur and droopy, well––everything! They seem to possess this natural intelligence and a well of wisdom like Sherlock Holmes. Well, I grew up with a Basset Hound named Sadie and she was a major character in my life. I can’t think back on my childhood without remembering our wonderful memories, even if it’s in a subconscious, spiritual kind of way. I think growing up with her as a member of my family with such a unique personality, I’ve always been drawn to oddball pups. Eventually I became a special education teacher who has a hyperactive rescue dog with special needs and an indifferent, fat cat. Just as I care for human children, I extend the same level of care and dedication to our beloved canine (and feline) babies for friends, family, and total strangers from the Internet. I’ve cared for animals since I was four years old, and I’ll always have them in my life. In the past, I’ve volunteered at a local animal shelter and have experience training dogs. Although this line of work requires training and understanding of how to deal with different personalities, physical disabilities, and backgrounds––there’s also this element which can’t be taught or faked. I’m just a steady, easy-going, respectful, and kind individual. I don’t need to try to be patient because I’m usually very open-minded and attuned to the fact that we’re all unique and different but we’re also beautiful and awesome in our own way. I know the world isn’t always a friendly place, but being around lovely kids and happy dogs gives me hope and recharges my batteries. Some people find children and animals annoying or a needy, but I think it’s the complete opposite. Their energy, innocence, and unconditional ability to love and be accepting are lessons adults can learn and employ in their daily actions. I see them as spongy mirrors––they’ll give back what they absorb. If children and dogs are around tons of love, laughter, and a sense of security, they will give back so much compassion and loyalty. Cats, well, they’re a whole other story. My schedule is adaptable but not totally flexible since I’m a special education teacher during the day, but I have weekends off, all school breaks, and evenings. I update my availability often, but I’m more than happy to help you last minute or even if it’s for a walk because of an emergency. If my schedule allows, you can count on me. I do teach summer school, so my mornings are usually busy but I’m free afternoons and evenings, and around for Labor Day weekend. Once the school year starts in the fall, my availability will shift slightly. My other passion is spending time in the outdoors, from walking to biking to hiking to swimming. I try to stay active and your pup is sure to get a lot of fresh air time.

This is Brittany’s second overnight with Biscuit. We are very pleased. She has been generous with her time and strives to provide the best care she can for Biscuit. She loves dogs and has extended that love to Biscuit, for which we are most grateful. Brittany has been very solicitous of our concerns as a result of being away from Biscuit; she makes sure to send daily photos. We recommend Brittany without reservation for sitting and walking your dog. Tom and Connie Mauro

Brittany has watched my cat and dog many times, and does an amazing job! She loves playing with the dog and taking him for walks, and also plays with my cat and his toys. I really appreciate that she sends me pictures while I'm gone. I've met her dog and he is very well trained, and she works with my dog to instill the same good manners.

Brittany always watches our pets when we are out of town or even when our schedules are hectic. She’s loving and caring and really treats our pets like they are her own. She comes over multiple times a day. She walks, feeds, and just loves on our animals. Anytime we need someone to care for our babies she’s the first person we call

Brittany is a loving and responsible dog owner. My little 10lb dog and her 80lb dog play all the time and she always makes sure the play is fun and safe for both pups. When I first got my dog she helped me learn training techniques and etiquette for interacting with other dogs and owners. No doubt she would be a great dog walker and/or sitter :)

This isn’t some side gig I do without thoughtfulness or consideration. Being a teacher and caretaker are two things I take very seriously, and I always want to give my best. I’m happy to chat on the phone or meet in person to make sure we’re comfortable––I always carry treats in my pocket, but of course I’ll only offer with your permission. I’m very punctual and will individualize my service to fit the needs for your beloved pup. I’ll want to know everything there is to know so I can provide the best care, and I’ll relish my time getting to your his/her unique personality and adorable quirks. Your pup will be treated like an extension of my own family, and the best interest of your pet will be my utmost priority. Please feel free to contact me anytime and I’ll happily provide daily updates documenting our fun times through text and photos.

A typical day

I love to play fetch, hide and seek and other pup games! I make dogs feel comfortable by getting on their level and reading their body language to see if they are ready for love or need more space. There isn’t a one size fits all kind of way to care for dogs, and I’m really good at intuiting and anticipating your dog’s needs. We’ll spend a lot of time exploring the neighborhood and nearby parks. I love getting as much fresh air as possible, so your pup and I will be outside a lot, but we’ll also have plenty of cuddle time on the couch with a good book or movie.
