Positive reinforcement dog care
Pet care experience
I'm a passionate hiker who loves dogs. I've been doing dog sitting part time for about 13 years - started with friends and family members' dogs, then started doing it for my nanny clients. As a Montessori preschool teacher, I believe in the philosophy of positive reinforcement. Be kind, but firm! I allow consistently well-behaved dogs off leash on hikes; I also know how to keep them in a proper heeling position for proper on-leash behavior management. I have experience with puppies, large dogs, and everything in between. I prefer to do overnights, but can also do AM or PM walks. The peace of walking a dog is delightful, and I'm so glad I have family members who inspired a passion for animals.
Reviews
Bridgid was great and took care of our animals while respecting our home. We would definitely use her again to to housesit with the dogs and cat. She did great with them and was a natural in taking care of and connecting with them. Jon M.
Bridgid is wonderful. I have two high energy working dogs who overwhelm many people. Bridgid immediately won them over, went above and beyond to make sure they were cared for, and is skilled with training high energy dogs. Bridgid also was very thoughtful in her care of our home. I think our dogs are now going to be begging for us to go on vacation again to get to see Bridgid again. We feel so lucky to have found her!!!
This picture is NOT my dog
Bridgid is the perfect person to care for our Siberian Husky. She has the energy, affection, and adventurous spirit that our dog craves. Bridgid exceeded our expectations! We will call on her again for boarding and walking.

I have many local references (you can see this info: busybpdxDOT you know what). I watched my sister raise her first puppy at a time when she had 2 children under 3 (that was wild!) I often walked at least one kiddo and the pup. I've done housesitting and dog sitting for clients for years, and expect (and feel totally happy about) security cameras. I document everything, chat up neighbors, and am open about my services and reputation. I'm very careful, especially after one run in years ago at local Oakland park with a random off leash aggressive, intact male pit bull. I communicate with other pet owners when they approach, ask questions, and work with a dog at least a few times to ensure good behavior before allowing them off leash in Portland's great dog parks. I try to always have high value treats (if that motivates them) or a toy, kong, as well as a gentle leader or harness. I especially love working dog breeds, poodle mixes, the small ones (Chihuahuas!), and Labs. All dogs are great, and frankly I'd rather hang out with them than most people.

Information Bridgid M. would like to know about your pet
Please inform me of your dog's age, breed, background (where'd you get them? How long have you had them? Are they a street rescue or did they come from a reputable breeder?), level of training, any physical health needs, behaviors and personality. Of course I need to know if they have any kind of aggression or fear for safety. Even if they are just big, strong, and overly friendly, that can effect neighbor dogs walking by. Knowing their basic daily routine helps me keep it consistent for them.
A typical day
I love to hike at Mt. Tabor. Also a huge fan of Tryon, Forest Park, and Powell Butte. Recently discovered 1000 acres! If it's hot, Sellwood waterfront.

As a teacher, summer is different. While I work in my other business capacity, I have lots of time for dogs, and I love them.
