Vet Tech Pet Sitter

Pet care experience

WE ARE BACK FROM OVERSEAS and back to pet sitting FULL TIME Hello! I'm a 'retired' vet tech with experience in emergency hospitals, general practices, and exotic species! My time in hospitals were no longer enjoyable due to the pandemic and I decided to take a break and work with Rover full time, so now I get to be home with your furry friends all day every day! About the Home: *I am the homeowner of a duplex! It's an enormous house split in half! I reside in one half by myself and tenants who are ok with dogs in the other* I have a very large yard that is completely fenced in and a main gate that shuts automatically. I do not treat the yard with anything and dogs are only allowed outside with me at all times. The home has treated hardwood floors and couches with coverings that get washed between pets. Rescue cleaner is used regularly (veterinary grade disinfectant). Dogs are allowed on all the furniture and are welcome to sleep in the king bed with me if that's what they prefer, I also have various crates and plenty of dog beds so we let them choose where they want to sleep. About my Pets: Tyler is a 10 year old chihuahua mix, he's definitely slowed down but loves to bark at strangers. Please don't mind him at meet and greets he barks at everyone new, but quickly gets over it after a few sniffs. He's never shown any aggression towards people or dogs and while he isn't a playful little guy, he loves to cuddle and nap with dogs. We've found that he is extremely comforting to animals with high anxiety! Jynx is a 14 year old cat that I adopted after her owner passed, she'll nap the day away and gets along with every dog and cat she's met! She never likes to leave my cat room so even if your dog doesn't like cats they'll never see her! Multiple Dogs: I allow up to 4 dogs to board in the house, usually we have 2-3. **Major Holidays we will now allow up to 6 dogs, however any larger dogs must be repeat clients** My partner will be home with me full time during holidays to still allow an excellent dog to human ratio! I only accept dogs with no history of aggression, fully vaccinated with Rabies, Distemper and Bordetella. I recommend flea, tick and heartworm prevention for all dogs but is not required. I also try to book multiple dogs in similar sizes or energy levels. I go by a first come first serve basis; if you'd like your smaller dog to only be around smaller dogs during their stay, we will absolutely accommodate for that. We've had several dogs who are shy or prefer laps, and with all sorts of special needs come stay with us, so if you are unsure about multiple dogs feel free to ask us any questions or look into other sitters! *Our USUAL group of pups are smaller dogs with an older gentle giant, we DO NOT accept any overactive or overly jumpy dogs anymore to maintain a peaceful home for our regulars. During their Stay: We accommodate to your dogs schedule and are outside frequently if the weather permits. We offer walks upon request but find most animals are very happy playing in the yard and chasing balls, security is our TOP priority so NO WALKS in the rain or dark! We now provide AIR TAGS for every pup that enters the home for maximum security! After all meals we do an hour of quiet time to prevent risks of bloating, and offer a midday nap. Water is provided at all times. For our special needs boarders we offer potty breaks until midnight and as early as 6 am, with the possibility of having overnight breaks as well! We clean frequently and in case of any emergency that requires me to step out, a fellow vet tech is also available. We send at least one update and photo a day. CATS: One of my rooms has been converted to a cat heaven! 5 towers, 3 litter boxes and the best window views in the house is now available for our feline friends. Cats are kept in the room only if they do not enjoy pups or we have a guest puppy that doesn't enjoy cats. My new cat is a very old girl that sleeps all day and gets along with every dog and cat she's met! Since I'm home full time your pups are always under my watch! However, I do leave the house a few times throughout the week for groceries or picking up pets, all animals will be separated or crated, and if I'll be gone more than an hour a fellow vet tech comes in! 2 home cameras are around the house for my use. All dogs are kept separate during feedings and higher value treats are also given separately and under my supervision. Our toys include stuff less squeak toys and dog size tennis balls as well as kongs that are picked up and put away when they're done and sanitized daily. My blinds strings have been tacked to the ceiling, stove knobs are removed and only put back when being used, every trashcan has a lid, the bathroom is always shut, chocolate and any items with xylitol are kept on top of the fridge, appliances remain unplugged and cables are tucked behind heavy furniture only. (If I've seen it happen in the ER I come home and get it fixed/changed in here). I have a large first aid kit for dogs as well as additional treatments if I see any problems. On a few occasions I've had to point out concerning lumps, or ear infections or environmental allergies to owners, and have a stock of antibiotic ointments and medicated cleaners to use with permission.

A typical day

We spend a lot of time in the yard on warmer days, and the front living room is excellent to people watch and play. The two couches are just for dogs and our bedroom is open for them as well. We offer enrichment toys for the stormy days on top of all their playing.
