Pet care experience
I my name is Brenda Dunham. I live in Navarre, Florida, Holley by the Sea, married and mother of 3 wonderful young adults, and 4 furbabies. I am also employed at West Navarre Primary as a Guidance Assessment Assistant/ Paraprofessional during the school year. (12 years) My husband and I have had 5 dogs in our 31 years of marriage: shitzu, Lhasa Apso, Japanese Akita, pomshi and 2 rescues...Heinz 57 variety. ...not quite sure what they are and would not have it any other way. Our latest addition is our daughter's Catahoula puppy Hazel. I started off pet sitting about 7 years ago just for friends and colleagues. News travels and now I have quite a few clients In the Navarre area. I absolutely love dogs. Sadly I am allergic to cats but have pet sit for some with no problems. I just don't interact with them that much. I do not watch your furbabies at my house, I go to yours as I feel pets do so much better in their own surroundings. During the school year I am only available from 5 a. m. to 7 a.m Then again from 3:15 p.m till 10 p.m. I also dog walk...usually not more than 2 at a time. It depends on the sizes of the dog. Make sure they are up to date on shots. What are the dog or dogs agitations/ what sets them off? And on the flip side what makes them happy...belly rubs etc. Any food aggression or aggression towards other dogs. Hyper? Quiet? ETC. I always would like to the meet the dog or dogs first to get an idea of their temperament.
A typical day
Depending on where you live...I usually will just walk your dog in your neighborhood. No stress involved. I am a runner...I don't run as fast a I used to but enjoy a good run. I try to get the dog to run with me a bit as it burns off a lot of energy. If you have a fenced in back yard...play there is so important. Fetch ...Frisbee...what every gets the pups heart rate up and burn off energy.
