Time Pets Call Their Own

Pet care experience

I've been with Rover for over 5 years now and my time is balanced between walking dogs, drop-in visits and house sitting. In addition, I have been around dogs and owned dogs all my life. When walking your pet I take different routes to make things interesting and make sure they have plenty of water as well as a treat when we're all finished. I let your pet explore the neighborhood for the first couple blocks, then I concentrate on making sure everyone gets their exercise in. I can comfortably walk two dogs at once. I am extra careful around vehicles, wild animals and other pets who may be out. On inclement days, I pay extra attention to issues that may affect your pet like hot or bitter cold weather, ice, snow and hot pavement. As a house sitter, very little demands are made on your dog, so they can unwind and feel relaxed. They'll be walked 3 times a day for potty breaks as well as for fresh air and exercise. In addition, your pet will be showered with love and attention while you're away. They'll be treated as an extended family member and will be encouraged to play openly and freely. I have dog sat for 110 pound Rottweilers and 10 pound Poodles. I often take care of 2 dogs at a time from the same family. Typically your pet will miss you for the first couple of days and then will warm up to me. I take this natural inclination into consideration with treats and give them extra attention. I create the kind of synergy that dogs embrace and unwind in. Most pets I sit for come from very loving and caring families. There are no loud noises when I house sit, so they don’t have to compete for attention with children and other household family members. When I arrive, the dog is walked three times a day regardless of weather, receives treats for positive behavior, plus they’re allowed to play and relax as they receive undivided attention. A favorite dish I like to make for dogs who aren't eating because they're missing their owner is a light layering of shredded bread that’s lightly warmed in the microwave on top of their regular dog food. The dogs love it and will still eat the remaining portion of their dog food. After a couple days dogs are usually back to eating their usual meal. Fresh water is given all day, unless specified otherwise. A dog is allowed to be a dog and receives loving attention. Owners are notified of their animal’s status every couple days and receive pictures of their pet. Even when I was young, I had a special bond with animals. In middle school when we were on vacation in Yellowstone National Park I came within feet of a wild bear and a moose without these animals being alarmed. So spending time with a new dog comes easily for me. I give your pet plenty of attention and establish Alpha dominance kindly, so the dog minds properly. Most pets I sit for are well behaved and love their owners. I have a quiet, tranquil manner about myself, so dogs feel comfortable naturally. I make sure your pet has the opportunity to relieve themselves at least 3 times a day or more regardless of weather, receives treats for positive behavior and just for the heck of it. Plus they’re allowed to play and relax as they're allowed to be themselves. Owners are notified of their animal’s status when their trip is about 2 days in, receive pictures, updates every other day after that and then I reconfirm any special instructions for the final few days. If I am dog walking I seek out the part of the neighborhood that's quiet, has plenty of homes, green grass and mature trees that dot the landscape. I create several different routes to walk your pet, so they are guaranteed to have differing routes at various times of the day. I also find the pace your dog is most comfortable walking with and adjust accordingly. For drop-in visits I make sure your pet relieves themself, receives plenty of water and I take the time to play with them for a good portion of the time I'm with them. I give them extra love as they're often missing their owners and are feeling lonely. Before I leave for the day, I make sure everyone gets a treat and I let them know the next time they'll see me. I have administered oral pills, ear drops and applied flea tick preventative medication. When pills are given, I put them into a small dab of peanut butter or cheese so the dog can easily digest the medicine or else I will use special edible bite size pill containers.

Bill watched our pup, Sadie, so we could spend the 4th of July weekend with our extended family. We met at a local dog park where we all took a walk together to establish “the pack” and help our dog transition to her sitter for the weekend. Bill has a very calm and quiet manner about him which is good for Sadie since she can be easily excited. We spend a lot of time with our dog and had a bit of anxiety leaving her for the trip, and while we wished we had more frequent updates, Bill was gracious to respond to inquiries promptly to let us know our Sadie girl was doing just fine. On the last day of our trip, we left sooner than expected and really appreciated Bill’s flexibility so that we could pick up our dog earlier than planned. We’re grateful to have had a sitter on such short notice for the holiday weekend so we could see family after over a year of quarantining. Thank you, Bill!

Bill was here every day with our German Shepherd, and our 2 cats while we went on vacation for a few days. He stopped by 3 times a day, made sure everyone was fed, played with, went to the bathroom, and looked after. I'm more than happy with Bill's performance and to the attention our critters received while we were gone. I'd recommend Bill to anyone who has pets in need of a sitter. Prices were more than fair, and I will be calling Bill again in the future. Thanks for looking after our family Bill.

Bill was excellent. This was our first dog sitting experience and he really made it easy. We received occasional pictures and updates about our pups and he went above and beyond, making me feel much better about leaving them behind! Thanks again!

Information Bill B. would like to know about your pet

Does our pet has any food allergies or special medication that needs to be given? I'd like to know if there are any injuries or medical conditions the dog lives with. Which toys does your dog prefer to play with? Are they any treats they prefer over the others? Is there any special people food your dog enjoys? Does your pet bark or growl loudly at unknown sounds or situations? Are there any special areas of concern I should be aware of? And of course, emergency numbers to you and any family or friends you trust and the name and number of your Vet.

A typical day

I walk your pets for a little over an half hour a day by breaking their routines into morning and evening. I am very careful to watch a dog doesn't overheat, walk them in cooler hours and make sure their water dish is full. In the winter I pay attention to ice and snow, as these will often build up on their paws and cause them to limp or be cold. If it's raining, I towel your pets off so they're dry and not tracking too much in your home. Their walks are carefree with not a lot of demands placed on them. Most seem to be content walking, but dogs will be dogs. After a few days of walking, I know what kind of pace to expect from your pet. So I'll gently guide your pet with the leash. I encourage dogs to sleep on the bed with me. Most of my guests will sleep with me, while others prefer to mix it up by sleeping at the foot of the bed, on the couch or in their cage. If your dog has a preferred method of sleeping, I would follow it during my stay, so the dog feels comfortable. I spend a great deal of time with your pet when house sitting. In a given 24 hour day, I will be at your home for at least 19 hours. I don’t leave the dog alone by themselves for very long and try to make it just once a day. If I do leave, I put the stereo on softly with soothing background music or have the TV on. Since I'm a Rover Dog Walker and conduct Drop-in Visits, my clients don't take up any more than 3 hours in a given day. In addition, your pet will be guaranteed to be walked at least a half hour a day with 3 or more bathroom breaks.
