I've had two dogs for most of my life, one small and one big! I know how important our pets are to us, so I'd make sure to treat your dog like one of my own. My small dog has had seizures most of her life, and I'm always there to help her. My big dog has bladder issues, so when she pees on the floor I tell her no, but am never mean to dogs. Ever.
