Dogs are better than most people!

Pet care experience

I started Southern Indiana Animal Rescue in 2007 because I was horrified at how many dogs and cats were being killed at my county shelter in IN. I had to resign my position when I moved back to Ky. Currently, I have a doggie door, so if I’m ever running late, they go in & out. I’ve fostered over 800 dogs/puppies in 14 years. I read dogs body language & can tell if they are:skittish, aggravated, scared, depressed, happy, ready to fight, be aggressive, confident, hesitant, angry, frustrated etc. I’ve read many dog behavioral books and how to descalate “almost” situations where a dog (s) could get hurt. Dogs are my life. I feel like they have qualities than most people. Unconditional love, loyalty, companionship, faithfulness, forgiving, easygoing& devotion, just to name a few. I can’t imagine my life EVER wo dogs. My dogs are truly my family. I take them places, do things they like to do, play, walk. I subscribe to Bark Box so they have a ton of toys. I even cook for them ( whole boiled chicken: meat & stock. I believe Dogs are a blessing, even if they make sometimes destuff toys, dig, bark, etc.? I could talk all day long about how much I ♥️ them!!! I love their innocence & devotion. When they stay with me, I monitor them constantly. If they are scared, I comfort them. Some may have an accident, & that’s totally okay. My home is unfamiliar to them. It’s easy to have accidents & I just clean it up and we practice the doggie door again. I am very understanding & sympathetic to my home being brand new to them. I’ve never met a dog I didn’t instantly love, even one with behavior issues. It’s usually bc human (s) messed up. It’s kinda like Caesar Milan: you have to retrain the human. I am very patient & have actually worked with 800+ dogs since 1999 when I found my first stray & fostered with the rescue group myself and 2 others formed that accepted & rehomed. I began fervently doing rescue and begging like minded people that our county shelter DID NOT have to murder innocent strays & owner surrenders & began pulling dogs out of there as soon as we had another spot open. SLOWLY OUR GRASS MOVEMENT BEGAN GROWING! I was thrilled! We were saving animals that would have been killed had Southern Indiana Animal Rescue been formed. That’s when my passion started to develop & grow stronger, until I quit my day job to become a full time unpaid volunteer. I was able to do this because I had my spouses income. I started taking pictures, giving baths, driving to vets, rehabilitating & teaching puppies & dogs, fundraising, taking out stitches, giving combo vaccines, going on WHAS with adoptable animals on Sunday mornings, removing ticks, etc. Bottom line, I find enjoyment in helping all animals & nuturing them. So far, that’s how I ended up with Rover, and tour dog is probably going to sleep in my bed tonight. LOL. I can pretty much guarantee your dog will feel like they are on a mini vacay if they are with me! Walks are ALWAYS included. Thank you for reading this!

First, we had never left our Lab with anyone but family while traveling. I was so very hesitant to leave our big baby! This was our first time using Rover. Bethany put all of our fears to rest. We couldn’t have asked for a more kind, compassionate and gentle sitter! Bethany treats all animals like her own. Our “baby” is 100 lbs and he slept in her bed! She sent us photos and videos that let us know what our baby was doing while we were away. I can 100% promise you that Bethany is the most caring sitter you will find. It was also amazing that she knew about medication and how to give! I can’t say enough about our experience! She is the only sitter we will use! Thank you so much, Bethany!

Bethany cared for our pup over a week's long trip over the Christmas holidays. We were very lucky to find her on relative short notice. As it turned out, Bethany had helped to organize the dog shelter where our very own pup had been cared for prior to our adoption. Bethany is very knowledgeable regarding dog behavior and gave us a helpful suggestion on using a gentle leader for our strong-willed girl who always pulls on a leash. Our dog quickly was comfortable in Bethany's home, which is very dog friendly and offered easy access to the outside when needed. As requested, we we sent many photos of our pup over the trip and we felt sure she was having a wonderful time and was kept safe while we were gone.

Bethany has watched our fur baby for us a few times and we are so grateful for her kind and compassionate care that she provides in our absence. I know that our dog will not only be taken care of, but will absolutely be spoiled with love, attention, and treats. Bethany treats her visiting animals just as lovingly as her own fur babies. I also love that she takes the time to send messages, photos, and/or videos daily (or sometimes several times a day) so owners can still feel connected. Any pet who is lucky enough to stay with Bethany would think they are also on a luxurious vacation! I can honestly not say enough wonderful things about Bethany and the love she has for animals!

I have known Bethany for many years and she is absolutely my first choice to care for my dogs. She is truly an animal lover and she treats each one as family whether they are her own pet, a foster, or shelter animal. As a dedicated longtime animal rescue person and pet owner, she has immeasurable experience and knowledge of animal care and she is in very much in tune with them. I highly recommend Bethany to anyone to care for their pets.

Do they get along with other dogs bc I have 2 rescues. And they like getting to know other dogs.A spayed border collie/ greyhound& a sweet pit lab mix. Are they house trained? Do they prefer inside or outside? Are they shy at first, or hit the ground running. Where do they like to sleep? In owners bed, floor, crate etc. I want them to feel safe & as relaxed as possible.

A typical day

My neighborhood. I love to get to understand their personality. They are always different. I want them to have a mini-vacation too & discover what they enjoy for fun & also relaxing and feeling at ease. I let them go at their own pace. They have to feel comfortable with me bc they have never met me & will be more than likely nervous out of their own home.
