Pet care experience
My experience working with dogs began when I volunteered with the Lethbridge and District Humane Society as a keyholding/shift-supervising dog-walker/feeder/socializer. I found the dogs way easier to handle than the other volunteers! I have two cats, and I love them dearly, but I also need some dogs in my life! My experience with the Humane Society means I can confidently handle a wide-range of dogs, from massively over-sized excitable Lab mutts to grouchy nippy Chihuahua-mixes. I have practice administering medications to unenthused senior dogs, and have spent many hours patiently improving terrible puppy-manners to improve the adoptability of year-old strays. I am constantly finding and restoring lost pets to their owners, I seem to be a magnet for critters-on-the-loose. I've grabbed two dogs out of traffic, caught multiple abandoned or injured kittens, and once cared for a tiny, wet, and very mangy puppy who showed up in our parking lot one morning (mange is itchy, would not recommend 4/5 of us caught it, luckily they can't reproduce on humans). We were broke university students living with five people in one small apartment, but we sheltered (and snuggled!) her for two weeks until a local rescue could take her. We took her to multiple vets at our own expense (the first one said she didn't have mange! the second one stuck scotch tape to her, put it under a microscope, and let me look at the swarming little jerks). It broke my heart to hand her over, but when I saw a follow-up picture of her all grown up and our vet clinic told us she has all her annual check-ups and occasionally needs her ears cleaned out because she plays in the river all the time, I knew we made the right choice for her.

Service Details: ~~House-sitting~~ Service consists of staying overnight at your home, caring for your animals as you usually would, bringing in mail, watering plants (if you have a garden I have lots of practice garden-sitting!), etc etc. It does not mean I spend all day with them, as I will be popping in and out for my regular walks and drop-ins. If your dog requires 24/7 supervision I'm not the sitter you're looking for! I include the morning of the first night's stay as a complimentary service, but it does *not* include the evening of the final day. If you will be returning late and need me to return after moving out in the morning, we will need to schedule an additional drop-in for that night. I've had to make this the policy due to overlapping house-sitting bookings turning into a month+ of not sleeping in my own home. I missed my kitties! ~~Extended Stay Rate~~ Rover's built-in option for this is *broken* so, for clarity: For stays longer than 3 nights the rate for the 4th night onward is an additional $15 per night. I have to manually add this afterwards, so the original quote Rover gives will not be correct. Sorry about that! Rates and Surcharges: Distance: If you are slightly outside my range, I can calculate a rate that includes the extra time/fuel/inconvenience, modify the booking to reflect that, and you can decide if that still works for you or if you'd rather go with someone closer or more flexible! No offense will be taken! Weekend Rate: I have had to start charging an extra $15/visit for walks/drop-ins on Saturday and Sunday. Behavioural issues: If your dog is actually *physically challenging* to walk, I will charge extra. This will be determined on a case by case basis. As they get to know me and we work on walking manners, this rate will be adjusted and eventually hopefully drop to my normal rate! I can handle most monster-pullers, anxiety, and dog-aggression issues. If your dog is aggressive towards people, you will need to find a different walker, as I am not experienced in handling dogs with aggression towards humans and it wouldn't be safe for me or your dog! I genuinely believe pets are family, and I'd be honored if you chose me to care for your fuzziest family members. I do my best to treat your pets as if they were my own (or even better, sometimes I call my pets mean names...)

A typical day
Ideally we try to stick to your usual routine! It's stressful for an animal to have their people go away and a new person hanging around, so if the routine is at least somewhat consistent it can really help. Playing lots of additional games for mental exercise as well as getting extra steps in helps, too!

I have a busy-yet-flexible schedule consisting entirely of walking dogs, visiting cats, and occasionally marveling at a more exotic animal. This gives me the opportunity to spend lots of solid quality time with your pets, providing walks, pats, and (somewhat) one-sided conversations.
