Pet care experience
I’ve cared for animals all my life and am the first person friends and neighbors have asked when their fur family needed a sitter. I have extensive experience with blind dogs and a medical background for other special needs. It’s important to me to really tune into each pet I meet to build trust and understanding between us. I like playing games with dogs and cuddling with them. I take pride in providing good care and affection often.
Reviews
Best caretaker I’ve used yet on rover. Absolutely one of the best. The continuous updates were so in depth. I give 10 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. So amazing. Took such great care of my little girl.
Bernadette was such an excellent caregiver for our pug. He gets nervous to be separated from us, but Bernadette gave us timely updates and pictures. We were so relieved that he settled in and came back calm and happy. We are so thankful to have someone who is so reliable, accommodating, and responsible to take care of our fur baby. He is already booked to return soon!
So appreciative of Bernadette’s care for my dog Jenny! She was also very communicative with updates. Couldn’t ask for a better sitter!
Bernadette took wonderful care of Kaeya. She gave her lots of attention and exercise. Kaeya had fun playing with another dog her size during her stay. Communication was great. She sent updates every AM & PM. Bernadette was also super flexible when our plans changed a few times. We would definitely use her again.

Walks, playing fetch, tug of war or keep away and other games with toys, plus lots of hugs or scratches and using their name and kind words— this is what I do with dogs are part of our daily wellbeing plan. For energetic dogs, I live two blocks away from Como Park where we can walk extensively on nice days. I enjoy walking with most dogs but can’t guarantee daily walks because it depends on if I have other guest dogs and their habits. In bad weather I find indoor games (ball rolling fetch and squeaky toys) or do some extra grooming and belly-rubs. I will enjoy learning what your dog likes and what makes them feel safe and content. I have a well-socialized and friendly dog and a shy cat who has favorite spaces inaccessible to visitors, so there will probably be little interaction with him. He is very used to dogs and gives them plenty of warnings if they get too close.

Information Bernadette D. would like to know about your pet
Please cancel and find another sitter if your dog has a cough or other signs of dog influenza. I have an elderly pug who could be in serious trouble if she gets a respiratory virus and there is sometimes an overlap of days with guest dogs so I want to minimize risk for everyone. I am waiting to get her flu vaccine because of the shortage. Hopefully I will remember to update this part! Does your dog have any dietary restrictions? I don’t give a lot of treats but after a walk or medication I offer a baby carrot or a mini Milkbone. Please provide favorite options if these are not suitable. How does your dog do with other dogs generally? Has your dog any experience with cats? Curiosity is fine and expected. If there’s been aggression towards cats, my home is not a good fit. What makes your dog nervous or scared? What are some of the ways that you soothe your dog? Any favorite games?
A typical day
Depending on which dogs are with me, we usually go for walks once daily, in the afternoon or early evening. In hot weather we go early to avoid overheating. I also bring dogs out in the fenced backyard where there is both shady and sunny spots to roam or relax. I spend a lot of time outdoors with them unless it’s really cold. I like to brush pets who enjoy it. I can provide some bedding choices for rest and sleeping.

I work from home and also spend hours each day (weather permitting) in my fenced in yard where there’s room for dogs to explore. My work hours are flexible and I am able to take breaks whenever needed for potty breaks and other needs, including cuddling. It is a peaceful home. I do not invite potential dog families to my home to meet. It is too disruptive to my other work, my pets, and other guest dogs. Meet and greets are essential and there’s a great little park a block away from my house where we can all meet. There are photos of my house and yard in my profile pictures if you want an idea of where your pup will be staying.
