Pet care experience
As a pet owner, I know how difficult it can be for me, my friends, and my family to find quality pet care and services when planning vacations. The same can be said for those days when you realize you won’t make it home in time to let your cherished pooch out for a much needed potty break. Likewise, I understand the dread of wondering, ‘But what will I do with my pet?’ when an emergency or illness hits you or your family. Those are a few of the reasons I decided to take my decades-long years of pet care & comfort with my personal pet menagerie and offer my services to the people who live in my development, Steiner Ranch. I have worked with the following types of animals: Cats, dogs, birds, fish (both freshwater & saltwater aquariums), rabbits, guinea pigs, Vietnamese potbellied pigs, bearded dragons, iguanas, aquarium housed turtles, terrarium and outdoor tortoises, and a huge tarantula named Harry. As an aside, I grew up in NC farming country where I spent most of my free time working with animals such as cows, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, sows and piglets, horses, ponies, and a few aggressive geese.
Reviews
Needed a sitter in a pinch and Avery B. stepped up for us. Our girl had a wonderful time during her doggie day care stay and she even got to experience a nature hike on the greenbelt. Too much fun!!
Avery took exceptional care of our two dogs. One of our dogs was a special needs, diabetic/blind/pancreas challenged dog. She took the best expected care of both and more. The more is what made the difference to us. This was the first time I've been on vacation and didn't worry or over think about our fur babies because I knew they were being loved on and cared for above what we do for them...which is saying a lot! I would highly recommend Avery to care for your fur baby.
Awesome! My special needs pup Buddy had a great stay. When I came to pick him up he was happy as a clam and calm as a cucumber. Avery was super communicative, genuinely cared for Buddy’s needs and I couldn’t be more pleased!
Avery is by far the best rover we have ever used. She goes way above and beyond to take care of our pups whenever we go out of town. She makes home-made doggie treats that she leaves with the pups, and she always takes them on a nice long walk. It feels great knowing our dogs are in the best hands when we are away. She loves every dog she takes care as if it was her own. I’m so glad we found Avery, and so are our dogs!

Important Note for Potential New Clients: MY SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE FOR **STEINER RANCH RESIDENTS** Proof of Residence is requested. Thanks for understanding! Both my husband and I are non smokers which means our home is smoke free for potential boarders. Also, we enjoy walking the dogs who board with us, and we are in pretty darn good shape for our early 50s, if I do say so myself. Also, I love getting to visit the other areas in Steiner Ranch when I head out to conduct drop-in visits or simply to take a dog for a walk. On especially good weather days, it allows me to bike my way to a client’s home instead of popping in my car! For those interested in BOARDING SERVICES - 1. Our house is nestled in the heart of an older Steiner neighborhood on a quiet street and our home is not ‘on the green belt’; 2. Our backyard is fenced and we work our hardest to keep it in good repair considering our fence abuts 5 other fences! But there are no easy ways to escape the back; 3. Our backyard has a HUGE Live Oak tree so there’s always shade from the blistering sun which we have a lot of in these parts 4. We have lush, green Bermuda grass along either side of the backyard and, where the densest part of our Live Oak’s shade falls, we have been able to maintain grass using a Zoysia strain of grass. 5. We also have a shady, pergola-covered back porch, so there’s never a need for a dog in our care to wind up with blistered paws; 6. Aside from rarely ever leaving our charges outside unattended sometimes, when we leave our backdoor open on pleasant days, the dogs will wander in and out, which is why we have motion-detection security cameras outside to alert us if anyone furry or not, goes out; and, 7. What’s more, we have 6 indoor motion-sensing cameras to detect movement anywhere downstairs. That way, we can have eyes on several animals at once even if they’re not in the room with us! *As noted in the animals we board in our home - we do also have cats who board with us. And when we do have feline guests - they reside upstairs where they have ample windows to perch in and cozy spaces to snuggle. My husband, whose work office is currently in his home office, takes breaks during the day to adore any kitties who happen to be here. Which is good for me, as I am allergic to cat dander. When dogs board with us we try to never have more than 4 at any one time - NOT including Walter, our chihuahua. But sometimes drop-offs and pick-up times don’t always sync up and we wind up with 5 or maybe 6 pups for a few hours. While your pup is boarding, I pretty much live downstairs with them. In fact, I even stay in the Pooch Room and sleep on the bed in there. And so long as it’s okay with pet owners, every pup who wishes can join me on the bed for bedtime!

Prior to your pet’s first service, I will contact you to go through everything I need to know to make your pet’s visit the best it can be!

We do a little bit of everything! I toss balls - so many balls! Some squeak, some do not! They always like the squeaky ones the best. I play tug. We walk; they sniff & I try to catch cute pics! One of my favorite games to play deals with Object Permanence. (I like to call it ‘Where’s the Baby?’) I will use a blanket to ‘hide’ and then pop my head out. Believe it or not, dogs with separation anxiety issues enjoy the game because after a while they figure out that ‘She’s not really gone!’ Oh, and I have a bubble machine for outside playtime. Oh, the bubbles! Some dogs LOVE to chase them down to bite them - if they can before they pop. Other dogs will be very still, watching, and when one lands and stays on the grass - they’ll pounce on it.

It’s what I do. I am a pet owner. But sometimes, I rather enjoy getting out of the house for an hour or two here and there. And what better way to spend that time than to enjoy it in the company of other animals? Plus, I often discuss plot lines for books I’m working on with my ‘away from home lovies’ much as I do with my own furry-lovey as well as any of the cats or dogs who might be boarding at my home with me and my husband. Granted, there may be times when I am not available due to illness, appointment, or other reason. However, I do endeavor to keep my calendar updated as best as I can! And when I am not actively attending to animals.- I write!
