The Pug House

Pet care experience

Hi there! I've been crazy about animals since I was a young girl, and when I met my first Pug many years ago, I was absolutely smitten. I have fostered a wide variety of dogs, some with special needs, with two different rescues, one in Washington and one in California, and have also volunteered with a local goat rescue. I fostered a pregnant pug whose pregnancy would have otherwise been terminated, helped her deliver five all-healthy babies, and nurtured all in my home until the pups were old enough for adoption. I know from experience how difficult it was to find the right person to care for my Pugs, Frankie and Manny, and that's why I decided I would be "that person" for you. I am a Pug-only sitter, and "Uncle Frankie" and Manny just love having Pug friends over, and will welcome your Pug with the usual sniffs, grunts, snuggles and kisses!

Audrey has loved dogs all her life. She has taken care of my dog many times and I trust her to take excellent care of mine and anyone else's dog. She recently had my dog for ten days while I was on vacation and I did not worry one bit about it, my doggy loves her. I would recommend her to any dog owner. She may not be the cheapest but she is the Best!

Audrey Winkels is the dog whisperer. Her dogs are her children, and she treats each and every pug visitor as her own. If your nervous about leaving your baby, Audrey is the one for you! I LOVED the pictures she sends to show you your precious ones are more than all right... they are in pug heaven!

Audrey was fantastic! It is never easy leaving my girls but Audrey's updates and pictures really helped. I left my 2 pugs and my grandparents' pug with her overnight. I'm sure they all had a wonderful time as they all came home happy. And tired from playing with her boys- Frankie and Manny (both are absolutely the sweetest pugs)! :) I will definitely request her again in the future.

Audrey is a great dog sitter! My dog is like my baby and I was so nervous to leave her the first time I went on vacation, but Audrey did such a great job she is my go-to. She is very knowledgeable and experienced with dogs and treats them like her children. I'm thankful to have someone I can leave my dog with worry-free now. Thanks Audrey!

A typical day

Your Pugs can enjoy free-reign of the entire downstairs of our home, once all the Pugs have gotten acquainted, however, some Pugs are shy or nervous around other dogs, so if you/they prefer, I can also give them the option of their own large, private, corralled off space, complete with cot and cushy doggy bed. Frankie and Manny sleep in their very own doggie tent in their room at night, which they love. Your Pug(s) will have a corralled off room in which they can choose the comfy orthopedic cot with cool clean sheet and fuzzy blankie, a big doorless crate with bedding, or their own comfy doggy bed. We can discuss what your Pug is used to --- I'm very flexible! Does your Pug ONLY sleep on your bed at night and you're worried about how unhappy he/she will be alone? No worries --- if that's what's important and they're not bed-wetters, on the bed at night it is! I also know from experience how important cleanliness is to me, when I board my Pugs. So I clean before and after each visit, including any bedding. Your precious Pug - and any doggy bed you might decide to send with him/her - will not go home smelling like another dog's pee! Your Pug will also enjoy our big, fenced in yard, off and on throughout the day for supervised potty breaks, sunbathing, or just snuggling with their Vacation Mama on the patio. You can be assured that I know the specific needs of a Pug. For instance, I know that Pugs cannot tolerate hot or cold weather for more than a few minutes, and I will never leave your Pugs outside for longer than a quick, supervised potty break if it is too hot or cold. I also know that, while Pugs are the friendliest creatures on earth, you do not let anything get between a Pug and its food. I supervise and separate feeding areas and your Pug(s) are never fed next to my Pugs. The fact that I know that Pugs were actually bred to be lap dogs and that snuggles and love is second only to food, means that I am giving everyone special lap time, hugs, and snuggles throughout their stay. Oh an what about those senior Pugs that we are afraid to leave, perhaps because they are arthritic, or have special needs? My hubby and I didn't go on vacation together for 2 1/2 years because one of our Pugs needed help walking and going potty. 2 1/2 years! Let me know what your Pug's needs are, and I will let you know if it's something I can help you with, so you can get on with your vacationing again, knowing your Pug is in excellent care while you are away. I am also able to help with emergency situations. One of the rescues I worked with was contacted because an elderly dog-owner was in the hospital, very ill, but was so worried about his dogs at home, and had no one to care for them. If you or someone you know has Pugs at home that are in need, let me know how I can help. I love sending you pictures and updates while your Pug is with me, especially because I know what it's like to leave your precious fur-baby behind, and how connected your feeling of relaxation is to knowing your Pug is having their own safe, fun vacation while being loved on at The Pug House!
