Pet care experience
I'm Athena. I live in Los Osos. I've had dogs my whole life. I also have several years of professional experience training and working with dogs in animal rescue. I worked for three years in canine care and adoptions at Tony La Russa's Animal Rescue Foundation. Then again in canine care and adoptions at the Berkeley East Bay Humane Society. Additionally, I volunteer-fostered dozens of puppies and dogs throughout my animal rescue years. I am confident working with all sizes, personalities, and breeds/mixes. My own companion dog is a mellow Italian Greyhound rescue dog named Lou.

Overall, Athena was great to work with and we'll use her again in a heartbeat. She was easy to work with to set up the stay and was very diligent in her preparation. Most important, she clearly enjoyed being with our Border Collies and she kept us up to date with very regular photos of their outings which makes being away from our dogs while traveling that much more relaxing.

I have a fenced yard where dogs can play. I do not leave dogs outside unattended. My office accesses the back yard and I will often leave the door open for dogs to come and go while I work. When I have to leave the house for a few hours, I generally confine dog to my office.
Information Athena C. would like to know about your pet
I love all breeds! Because my own dog is only 12lbs, it is important that any guest dog staying with us be friendly and gentle with small dogs. My small dog has lived with gentle big dogs before, so although I indicate taking only small-medium dogs, large or extra large breeds are welcome as long as they are calm and gentle. I do expect adult dogs to be potty trained to do their business outdoors.
A typical day
I generally do one longer walk per day, in addition to potty breaks every 2-4 hours and plenty of cuddle time. Dogs are kept indoors, except to walk and go potty.

Availability
I work from home where I teach online psychology courses through a community college district. I am also a full time doctoral student in psychology. While I do need to spend much of my time working at home, I rarely leave for more than 4 hour stretches.
