Between a history of petsitting both here and in my home town and volunteering at a dog shelter, I've come to learn a lot about taking care of dogs and understanding dog behavior. For me, the best thing is when a dog is able to match my energy level as I could play with a dog for hours. I'm a recent college graduate working from my apartment so I'm pretty much home all the time. I'm also one of those people who will forgo sleeping in my bed to sleep on the ground/couch with a dog and if there's a threat to the dog, I will put myself in between the dog and the threat. I do own a ball python that remains in a locked cage in my room. But don't fret! He's both cowardly and scared of fast moving things. When there's a dog in the apartment, I make sure that the two never meet face to face. I keep a vigilant eye on the dogs I take care of, making sure they don't get into things they shouldn't get into and keeping a mental note on their behavior - for me dogs are way easier to read and understand than people!
