Pet care experience
Hello! I’m an Animal Geneticist, recently moved to the DMV. While I am not a veterinarian and do not have clinical training, I do have extensive experience doing research in animal health and disease and a lot of insight which helps me keep your pets safe and healthy. I have two feral rescue cats, Stormy and Bo, who are cautiously dog-friendly given they don’t interact with them very often! I love dogs but don’t currently have any of my own. I do work 40 hours per week but those hours are flexible and would let me check in on your pets midday for a walk and potty break if you’re out of town. I have 20 years of experience in pet ownership, not to mention experience with domestic livestock like pigs, goats, chickens, horses, rabbits, and cows. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or details of whatever unique pet care situation you have!
Reviews
Asha was great! Good communication, reliable, and took good care of my cats while we were away. I doubt they even missed us.
Asha was great for my cats! My cats are very needy when I am away and one developed a skin condition before I left such that she had to wear a cone. Asha had no problem checking on them more often and even picking up meds from the vet while I was gone. She played with my cats and gave them lots of attention. She kept me updated too so that I didn't have to worry about them. I will definitely use Asha again!
Asha was great!! She was so flexible when our plans were cancelled. When I contacted her again, she responded right away and was eager to help us through the holidays! We could tell that our pup was loved and taken care of. Asha even took Freddy for some walks despite the bad weather. She also was great at keeping us updated and even sent pictures. We will definitely reach out to Asha again soon!
Our cat loved Asha! She sent daily pictures and updates and was quick to respond via phone. If you want your pet to be treated like family, we highly recommend her! Thank you for everything!

Safety, trust & environment
Safety, trust, environment are possibly the most important elements in considering a pet sitter (I honestly have a friend check on my pets whenever possible, because stranger-danger, and it is very difficult to know what kind of care you are getting in an untested, online-sitter. I don’t have a blanket statement to issue on these topics, I find the best policy is uniquely tailored to your animals, their behavior, and their environment. Send me a message and let’s talk about it!

Information Asha M. would like to know about your pet
My biggest questions are behavioral: I’d like to know if they are fear-aggressive, leash-trained, and if they get along well with cats and other dogs. Anticipating their behavior will help me make them more comfortable and keep everyone safe - my top priority! Before you leave town I usually schedule a visit (free) where they can meet me with you there to establish me as a safe, calm, and friendly person. I also require you leave their veterinarian information before you leave town in case there is an emergency and I am unable to reach you immediately.

WHAT YOU’RE PAYING FOR: I believe transparency is important, so first and foremost my rates are priced as they are because Rover takes 20% of my fee. That said, I am willing to adjust the pricing (higher or lower) given your unique situation as detailed below. All of the amounts of time I discuss below are time spent with your pet, excluding my travel which is on my own dime. Boarding: This is my most expensive service because of the considerable effort it takes to make sure your pet is comfortable in a new environment and to minimize the stress of new animals to my cats. This pricing reflects an overnight stay from dinner time until breakfast, and I can pick up and drop off your pet. I do have the ability to keep them separate from my cats. I prefer only to take crate trained dogs (or exceptionally calm dogs) for overnight stays. Pricing can be adjusted to include a full day and night for a modest increase. I am primarily WFH so can give them breaks/walks as my work schedule allows. House-sitting: the given rate is for me to stay at your home from dinner time until breakfast with your pet. It also allows for me to come back to the home around lunch to give them a break/quick walk. If your pet requires more intensive effort on my part (e.g., cannot be left alone for more than a couple hours), the rate will be higher. We can definitely discuss your unique situation and I am pretty flexible in this regard. Drop-in: I will come to your home and spend 30 minutes with your pet, changing their food/water, potty breaks/scooping litter, and playing with them. The price can be adjusted if you only require a quick visit and no prolonged attention (e.g., some cats are utterly uninterested in me and the visit is more like 15 minutes). Dog-walking: I will gladly walk your dog for 30 minutes - 1 hour around your neighborhood provided there is a sidewalk or wide shoulder to keep both of us safe. I am also happy to jog with your dog although I am not very good at it. Barring outdoor activities, I am also happy to play with your pets indoors or whatever suits their needs given the weather or their behavioral preferences.

I currently work full time, though my employer is in maximum telework posture. This means I generally have a lot of flexibility for checking on pets and midday visits.
