Pet care experience
I have two senior dogs of my own plus nearly 10 years of experience fostering and volunteering with dog rescues in Chicago (before moving to Florida in 2021!). I have hosted pups of all ages, sizes, and abilities (e.g., blind, tripod, recovering from surgeries, etc.) and have training in dog behavior and socialization. Awarded "Foster Home of the Year" in 2016.
Reviews
April was great as always!
April is the best!
April did a fantastic job taking care of our 7-month old lab puppy while we were out of town. He is full of energy and still has a lot to learn about house manners but April was a total professional and very patient and understanding with her approach. She was a great communicator and provided daily updates and pictures. We felt really comfortable and our minds were at ease knowing our pup was getting such great care. We'll definitely be booking April again in the future!
April is great! Our dog is shy at first but April and her pack made him feel at home. She spent quality one on one time with him and I’m so appreciative of that! She is a phenomenal dog sitter and we’re definitely going to use her pet sitting services again! Thanks for everything April!

Safety, trust & environment
I used to love taking my foster dogs out in the community to help get them socialized/exposed to potential adopters (leading me to be chosen as One Tail at a Time's Foster Home of the Year in 2016!) but I am also a homebody and happy to stay in with dogs that have separation anxiety and/or don't do well in public settings. I moved to Florida to live near my sister, a former Rover sitter and dog-walking company owner herself, so she is nearby to help if anything were to come up where I needed to leave the house for an extended period of time. My dogs are old and used to having other dogs around but they are also crate trained if separation is preferred by client.
Information April Y. would like to know about your pet
Do they have a specific feeding/walking schedule; are they allowed on furniture in their home; are they sensitive/allergic to any foods so I can provide appropriate treats; what skills, if any, can I help reinforce while I am watching them? (e.g., a trick you are working on, or a behavior you are trying to nip.) Do they like being handled/picked up? Do they have any sensitive areas I should avoid? (e.g., my big dog has arthritis so I am careful with his hips.) Where do they usually sleep?
A typical day
For dogs that like leashed walks I live very close to beautiful Hammock Park! Otherwise, I have a large fenced-in yard for playing fetch and/or lazing in the sun. Would discuss what you're comfortable with before taking your dogs out of the house and of course give them all the pets and scritches they could ask for!
Services
April can watch in your home
Availability
I work remotely for a national pet-advocacy nonprofit so I can be home with your dogs all day! Until June of 2021, I lived in Chicago apartments so my own pups are VERY happy to now have the year-long use of a large fully fenced-in Florida yard while I work from the kitchen or patio table.
