I have a new leash on life!
Pet care experience
I’m an experienced animal lover who has always looked after fur babies in one form or another. Throughout college I dogsat and house sat and loved it. Just loving on dogs and going on long walks, what better job was there? Now we live where this gorgeous greenbelt is and have a huge backyard. I’m lucky to have regular clients that I have a great relationship with, but I’m always happy to see if I can help out folks who are in a pinch. I have a super sweet dog who loves playing and running around with other dogs and needs company. She’s so patient with the many strays that manage to find their way to my house. We have a wide open yard for running around, a good 6 ft fence (but we don't leave dogs unsupervised outside, mine's a jumper) and we love going on long greenbelt walks at least twice a day, our dog isn't happy otherwise. I am happy to send pictures and updates throughout the day if they stay with us too! Bringing folks peace of mind is a benefit of this gig to me. I love animals and I feel lucky to be able to help clients know their babies are getting lots of attention with me. Ideally looking for neighbors in the area if it’s more than 1 visit per day so I can continue to honor my longstanding commitments for families nearby.
Reviews
April was FANTASTIC!! She was patient, adaptable, and communicative throughout the time she cared and watch over our Blue Boy. She dedicated her time and love to make sure our Blue Boy was taken cared of and loved while we were gone. She is a natural pet lover with lots of knowledge and experience that will leave you with peace of mind knowing your furr baby is in good hands! We highly recommend her and her services!?
April was amazing and really helped us out by watching Bently at a last minutes notice for us. Bently had a great time and was happy and seemed like he really enjoyed being there with her and her dog! Thank you for a great stay!
My dog, Rose, is a rescue who is naturally very anxious and nervous with new people. April immediately won her over and even helped her become more confident with other people! The moment Rose hears April's voice she can't stop wagging her tail in excitement! Rose is also very high energy, and April is not only a patient but also a nurturing caregiver. April is a natural when it comes to winning over both dogs, but also their human parents!
We love April because she is a great communicator and takes care of our pets as if they were her own! We got frequent updates with photos and details on how our furry guy was eating and drinking, which made coming home from the hospital with a new baby a little less stressful.

I’m extremely respectful of someone else’s home and will follow any guidelines you have. We don’t allow our dog on the furniture because she is such a shedder, but she has a designated ottoman so we can still cuddle. I’m relaxed if your dog isn’t used to that though. We had a Boston Terrier visit recently and he was bouncing from couch to couch. It was adorable and we managed fine. I usually wipe our dog’s paws when she comes in from running around with our Houston weather, so if you have preferences like that I’ll try to keep your routine for a smooth transition. I’m also happy to water plants or tend to bird feeders if you’re out of town.

Information April H. would like to know about your pet
I’d love to know if your dog is anxious around other dogs or kids so that I can account for that on walks, I adopted and anxious dog myself and she has had lots of training and made huge strides because I work with her on a regular basis. I’m happy to build that trust with a dog that not everyone “gets”. Any special dietary restrictions or habits you are working on with your dog would be important information. I plan on getting certified for dog first aid and cpr soon, but I have a great relationship with our vet at Glade Valley who has helped me with many strays and various issues.
A typical day
I believe dogs need enrichment just like kids do. I know lots of cheap ways to have fun and stimulate dogs. I consider getting exercise and practice training dogs as a huge perk to this job. I have lots of dog puzzles and toys at our house if they spend the day with us or boarding.

Availability
Currently I’m very flexible if I’m not booked elsewhere! Mon-Fri seems to be a time when folks need the most help, but I have an open dialogue with my clients that work far away. So if there is a weather emergency or special circumstance and I can help with an unexpected need, I’m happy to take those requests with little notice.
