The Lab Lady and The Golden Guy

Pet care experience

My husband and I are retired, and we love dogs, especially Labs and Golden Retrievers. We both had dogs as children and since we were married 33 years ago, we always had a lab, until recently. After we had to say goodbye to our beloved Goose two years ago, we haven’t been able to have a dog of our own because we frequently travel to Europe for extended periods. Our first Lab after we were married was Tango, a yellow. When our first child was born, the babysitter we wanted told us she’d work for us if we got rid of her. Obviously a non-starter. She grew to love Tango and she’d go on long walks with our son Jack, with Tango at her side. After Tango died, we needed another dog. We went to a breeder and arranged to get Goose when she was old enough to leave her mother. While we were waiting, we got a call from a neighbor who knew we wanted a dog. A friend had taken in a dog, but couldn’t keep it because her old dog wouldn’t get along with it. I told my husband, “Let’s just go meet this dog.” Of course, we came home with her, a one year old black Lab, Raven. About two years later, I heard from a coworker that her neighbor had a dog they just kept chained outside and never played with. She had convinced them to let the dog go to another home. She asked if we were interested. Now we added a chocolate, Duck, to our group of “bird dogs.” We started dog sitting along with our daughter, Emma, about two years ago. She’s now off to college, so we’re taking over her “business.” Please consider us your go-to place for dog sitting! ---We love all dogs, but we’re really Lab and Golden specialists.---

Anne & Ed provided a great home for our dog Angus while we were away. Great communication and, most importantly, Angus seemed to be right at home. I'd highly recommend them as a great place for your dog.

We could not have found better dog sitters than Ed and Anne. They are true dog lovers and treated out Toby, a 2yr old cavapoo, with great care. Ed sent a picture of him and an update on his stay. This was greatly appreciated as having never been away from us overnight, we were a-bit anxious. Toby did just fine for his first time away. We will definitely leave him with them again. Thank you Ed and Anne for making Toby’s first sleep over a success.

Information Anne & Ed W. would like to know about your pet

We prefer retrievers, but are open to other similarly sized dogs. They can be exuberant, but they need to calm down enough so we can have guests. We feel it’s important that all dogs wear a collar with tag with a contact telephone. We’ve never had one get out, but we want to be safe, just in case.

A typical day

We live in a quiet neighbor that’s great for everyday walks. Also, there is a nearby nature preserve where dogs can go off leash — and maybe have a swim in the pond. In town, there’s a nice dog park. We believe in a lot of scratching of dogs, and the dogs we know tell us, “there’s not a darn thing wrong with a belly rub or having my ears done.” Dogs have also been known to discover a toy or a tennis ball around the house, and a game of tug-of-war is never out of place.
