Loving, responsible and respectful

Pet care experience

I love dogs of all sizes and personalities, and have taken care of them for many years. From walking my neighbor’s Collie when I was 10, to feeding and letting out my roommate’s lovable mutt, I have taken every chance I could get to interact with dogs. I love to play and snuggle with them, but I can also be firm and assertive when needed. I’ve owned cats since I was about two years old, so they have a special place in my heart. I’m comfortable taking care of cats of all ages, and I can give medication as needed as well. (My own cat, Hermes, has a complicated medical situation.) I am good at “speaking” cat language and can draw shy, anxious cats out of their shells. I am on summer break from school at NC State and will keep my calendar updated. (I’m doing an M.A. in Spanish linguistics—¿hablas tú el español?) At this time, I am not accepting jobs past January 10, 2022, because I don’t yet know what my schedule will look like for next semester. Once I have that pinned down, I will begin accepting jobs for after 01/10/2022. I am used to house-sitting and drop-in pet care, and I am very conscious of clients’ homes’ security and cleanliness. I always take care to leave houses as clean—or cleaner—than I found them, and I will double-check locks and latches on fences before leaving any job. For walks, I try to be conscious of dogs’ energy levels, modifying distance and speed as needed. I will always pick up pet waste. I am conscious of possible conflict with other dogs and people, so I tend not to allow contact between dogs I’m walking and other people/animals, unless I am told specifically by the owners that it is ok. For cat care, I prioritize the cats’ comfort. I love to give and receive affection from cats, but I will never try to force a cat to interact with me. I understand that a scratch from a cat is almost always a result of a human’s lack of regard for boundaries.

Anne house and pet sits our dog Abby each week that we head to the beach. She is reliable, responsible and great with Abby. She checks in with us to give updates on Abby’s well being which is so comforting. I highly recommend Anne for your pet sitting needs.

Anne has taken care of our 2 cats many times and has always been wonderful. Our cats are old and in addition to feeding them, Anne sees to it that they take their medicine and she pets them too. We leave our cats in Anne's care with complete confidence.

Information Anne E. would like to know about your pet

I like to know a dog’s energy level and their familiarity with commands like “sit” and “stay.” (Bonus if your dog can do any fun tricks!) I also like to know how your dog behaves with new people and with other dogs, particularly if your dog and I will be going on a walk together.

A typical day

I love to go on walks by myself, but with a dog it’s even better! Your dog and I can walk around your neighborhood and sniff out the latest dog news, or we can go to a new place to let your dog explore. My favorite games to play are “chase” and tug of war, and I like a game of fetch as well. I love to play with cats, too, especially if you have toys like a feather wand or a little ball to chase. Whether you have a cat or a dog, there will be lots of pets and snuggles involved!
