My dog walking experience started with my very first pet, one who my mother made me sign a contract promising to take care of, including taking outside, cleaning up after inside, feeding and walking. It sounds crazy, but it taught me the importance of pet care early on. I was a part of an animal advocacy club my first year of college where I went to one of the local shelters and walked dogs, and then I got a job at another local shelter, where I have been for 9 months. At the shelter I clean and feed dogs and cats, walk dogs and assist with adoptions of the animals in the shelter. I have also been responsible for the transport of animals in the shelter vehicles to and from local animal hospitals and fostercare. I have dogsat for neighbors and for family friends, overnight and drop in, and been responsible for their food routines and walk/play routines. I am a lover of all animals, my favorite is horses, and I worked at a horse ranch for 5 years, where I got experience working with many animals, including farm dogs, cats, ducks, rabbits and goats in addition to horses. I currently intern at the local zoo in Lafayette doing public relations and marketing, and I hope to work as a Public Relations director for a nonprofit that is centered around animals someday. Many people who have a lot of animal experience choose to go into medicine or science, however I have always been better with my words, so I have chosen to advocate for the animals using my communication skills and my love for animals combined.
