This was our first time using Rover.com, or any house/pet sitter. It was, unfortunately, more of a learning experience than a positive one. Andy was easy to get a hold of and responded quickly to texts. He was able to come by about a week before the scheduled stay to meet our dog, us and see the house. He was also very kind on the price, as I didn't catch that the fee was per animal. Things were off to a good start. I wrote out directions/instructions for our pets (1 dog, 2 cats) and house. Our pets are not old, special needs or come with any strange requests. The one difficulty we have is not being able to leave the dog out while we're gone. In conversation, I mentioned that she gets in to any food she can find, has gotten on the kitchen table and pees on the carpet, therefore we kennel her at night and while we're gone. In my instructions, I wrote the following (among other things): • She gets a cookie after going outside and when you tell her to “kennel” if you’re leaving • Commands she knows: o Kennel (when she needs to go in the big kennel if you leave or her bed kennel) I think my mistake lies in that I didn't write out "Please put Tessa in the big kennel whenever you are not in the house or she will pee on the carpet." Somehow, there was a misunderstanding and Tessa, our dog, was never put in her kennel while Andy was out of the house, therefore, she peed on the carpet and put a large scratch across our dining table. I only found out when I texted and asked how things were going. At that time (one day before we came home), he mentioned there were 2 pee spots. The next day, our trip home was very long due to holiday traffic and Tessa was loose in the house for 8 hours. We came home and I counted 12 pee spots. It's hard for me to believe she did 10 of those that day, so I think it's possible that Andy missed a few in the 2 days prior. In addition, we told him that one of our cats was a big complainer who talks a lot. Rather than texting and confirming this, his concern that she wasn't getting to her cat food led him to leave the laundry room door open (which has a cat door in it). Unfortunately, that allowed the dog to get the cat's food and litter box. I have tried and tried to clean my carpet, however, that many spots is very difficult, so we have a professional cleaner coming. As I mentioned, it was a learning process for me to write out very clear instructions for the next sitter if we choose to do this again. Andy is very nice and cares for animals. The house was clean and our animals were inside and safe when we got home. It was unfortunate we had such a costly misunderstanding. I hope that Andy will take from this to clearly read the instructions and if there are any doubts/questions, to contact the owners, especially when invited to do so.

We love it when Andy watches our dogs! We have one younger dog and an older lab. We feel safe leaving Andy at our house with the dogs because we know he will care for them in accordance with their needs.
